GROUNDS MANAGER

Job Description

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Director of Facilities Services
Department: Facilities
Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly

DESCRIPTION:

The Grounds Manager is responsible for overseeing campus grounds operations, providing direction to the grounds crew, and maintaining all outdoor campus areas, including athletic fields and track facilities. This position requires expertise in grounds maintenance, landscaping, and seasonal care procedures.

This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is therefore eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per workweek.

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the grounds maintenance crew
  • Plan and implement improvement and maintenance of campus grounds, athletic fields, and track facilities
  • Oversee seeding and chemical treatment programs
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and tools
  • Coordinate sidewalk sweeping and snow removal operations
  • Assist in other facilities departments as needed

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High school diploma or equivalent (or currently pursuing with anticipated completion date)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with colleagues, students, and visitors
  • Attention to detail and commitment to campus appearance and safety
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a results-oriented focus
  • Self-motivation with the capability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Commitment to uphold the institution's guiding principles, including the mission statement and core values of Integrity, Hospitality, Community, Servant Leadership, and Sustainability

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs. using proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to sit or stand as needed throughout the workday
  • Walking on level surfaces for periodic periods throughout the day
  • Reaching above shoulder height, below the waist, or lifting as required
  • Proper lifting techniques required
  • Good hand-eye coordination and arm, hand, and finger dexterity
  • Visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read technical information

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Primarily outdoor work in various weather conditions
  • May require occasional indoor office work
