Patrocinado por CareerFoundryThe Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) Global Surveillance Division seeks a Principal Software Engineer to enhance our team located in Melbourne, Florida. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities including the deployment, automation, maintenance, and enhancement of systems and software infrastructure to assure optimal operation. The selected candidate will have a strong technical background and a proactive approach towards automating and managing environments, as well as driving continuous improvement.
As a collaborative team member in our agile development process, the Principal Software Engineer will design and implement application builds, releases, deployments, and configurations. They will engage with internal stakeholders to collect requirements, prototype, and design sophisticated solutions, and support building and testing activities. The role involves conducting quality reviews, troubleshooting, and resolving operational issues.
The individual will also be instrumental in integrating, troubleshooting, and testing new software modifications. A critical aspect of this position is the ability to independently handle complex challenges and to steward solutions to fruition, collaborating effectively within a team setting. Comprehensive knowledge of the software development life cycle is paramount, with specialized skills in requirements and MBSE to manage and scrutinize large datasets.
Job duties also extend to taking charge of ambiguous and difficult problems, providing leadership, and demonstrating a strong understanding of automated testing processes.
The Software Engineer will be deeply involved in the entire software development lifecycle, engaging in requirements gathering, system modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance. They will apply their technical acumen in resolving complex integration issues and interface between system analysts/programmers and users to ensure that the technology solutions align with end-user needs. This will involve documenting requirements and developing test procedures to ensure fulfillment of user expectations. Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met. Interaction with Program Management and government customers may develop as part of the role; hence, excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal) are essential.
Essential Functions:
• Lead requirements gathering, analysis, and verification, ensuring that requirement statements are complete, consistent, concise, comprehensible, traceable, feasible, unambiguous, and verifiable.
• Develop and execute detailed software test plans to validate software functionality and adherence to business requirements.
• Work with various team members to integrate functionality with other software components.
• Provide technical leadership to drive solutions of complex problems, potentially leading a team through the development process.
• Ensure software best practices and adherence to quality standards.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 5+ years of experience in software engineering, OR a Master's degree in STEM with 3+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Demonstrated experience with requirements gathering and designing software test cases.
• Demonstrated experience with C/C++ or other OOP languages as a strong asset for software creation and integration.
• Development experience with Linux, and/or RTOS development environments such as LynxOS or VxWorks.
• Strong understanding of avionics systems and safety critical software development processes.
• Experience with aviation or safety critical systems.
• Understanding of the certification processes and standards in the aviation industry, such as RTCA/DO-254 for hardware and RTCA/DO-178 for software.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance
• The ability to obtain and maintain a program special access clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Proficiency in requirements and test management for aviation systems, including hands-on experience with DO-178C or similar safety-critical development standards.
• Knowledge of avionics communication protocols such as ARINC 429, ARINC 664, ARINC 825.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing for avionics systems.
• Effective cross-functional teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with avionics engineers, systems engineers, and other professionals.
• Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite, including add-ons like Git, is highly regarded.
• Current possession of an In-Scope Active DoD Top Secret level security clearance is a plus.
