This is a hybrid positions and the candidate must reside within the following county(s) within Region 8: Bandera, Kerr, Gillespie, Kendall, Comal or Guadalupe County.

PRIMARY FUNCTION/RESPONSIBILTY

Satisfactory implementation and delivery of the Parents as Teachers (PAT) Program within the context of the PAT curriculum and Quality Essential Requirements. A certified parent educator implements the PAT model, emphasizing parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being in their work with families. Utilizing the PAT Foundational Curriculum in culturally sensitive ways, the Parent Educator partners, facilitates, and reflects with families.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative

  • Maintain accurate logs and records as required by the PAT Program and SJRC Texas 
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports as scheduled by the PAT Program including but not limited to a monthly Summary of Service (SOS), mileage documentation and TPCN documentation and billing
  • Maintain the ability to use time and resources effectively to meet job requirements  
  • Maintain up to date client records-meeting all PAT requirements for documentation in family folders and in required databases
  • Ensure all program data is accurate and detailed 
  • Abide by TPCN documentation and billing guidelines
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills 

Program

  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings and conferences as required by PAT 
  • Effectively administer parent/caregiver assessments to all enrolled caregivers.
  • Develop, monitor and review goals with each family 
  • Provide group connections to give families an opportunity to build social connections with each other, engages in parent-child interaction activities, and increase their knowledge of ways to support children’s development
  • Effectively deliver PAT services to a caseload of up to 20 families using the Parents as Teachers curriculum to deliver home visits
  • Plan, provide and document personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well being  
  • Maintain confidentiality 
  • Help parents and children transition to other services as needed 
  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with parents as a model for parent-child relationships 
  • Support and promote the philosophy and integrity of PAT 
  • Be available to provide PAT presentations at health fairs and to individuals, school staff, or community agencies
  • Be available to respond to phone or written communication from individuals seeking information on PAT or Prevention Services
  • Assist with completion of the PAT Annual Program Report
  • Monitor and manage a healthy balance between personal and professional responsibilities 
  • Engage in recruitment activities 
  • Travel to and back from home visits within assigned region 
  • Other related duties as required 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development or Social Science field of study preferred
  • 1+ Years in Social Services Field including early childhood education, social work, health, psychology, or related field

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:

  • Valid state drivers license, good driving record, ability to provide own transportation and proof of current automobile insurance
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (provided)
  • Bilingual preferred
  • PAT Certified Educator 0-3

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND INFORMATION

  • Body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, walk and walk briskly in order to interact with and monitor children
  • Stamina to work long days and drive long distances
  • Ability to work at various times throughout the week to include some evenings and weekends
  • Must have ability to communicate both verbally and in writing   
  • Must have ability to give and receive verbal and written instructions (with or without hearing aids) 
  • Must have ability to read fine print, have sustained vision and peripheral vision (with or without glasses)
  • Environment requires dexterity to remain calm and adapt to fast paced and emotional environments
  • Home-like settings with varying moderate to high degrees of background noise
  • Frequent exposure to various living environments
  • Campuses are smoke-free, except on permitted campuses in designated areas
