Responsibilities
- Ensure the upkeep of the Baltimore R&D facilities (pilot and labs). Maintain existing equipment so everything is in working order. Source new equipment, as approved by the R&D Manager.
- Interface with the Maintenance Department and contractors to ensure proper completion of laboratory maintenance and construction activities.
- Ensure that all Baltimore R&D employees are trained in the relevant safety rules, regulations, and procedures. Act as the Laboratory Supervisor for the Baltimore R&D Lab, as described in the company’s Chemical Hygiene Plan.
- Design and execute approved R&D projects with a focus on developing processes for new products and ensure their robustness for successful implementation. This includes oversight of the pilot-scale activities at the Baltimore site. Establish process flow diagram and conduct mass-balance calculation that facilitate the scale-up to the industrial scale.
- Provide technical support for the manufacturing scale-up of development projects at any of Vibrantz’s global production locations.
- Maintain records of project work, provide regular (e.g. weekly) updates, and write timely reports upon completion.
- Communicate project findings and results to R&D team members and operation/sales/business teams.
- Provide assistance to Process Engineering and Quality on projects and tasks to improve process reliability, efficiency, safety and quality as well as on resolving plant process problems.
- Provide support to Quality and Sales in answering customer questions, resolving technical issues and promoting Vibrantz products.
- Propose ideas for R&D projects with a primary focus on new products, but also on modified processes that would lead to cost reductions or to quality improvements.
- Conduct literature searches and summarize information.
- Follow safety rules and practices. Participate in R&D, corporate and plant safety activities.
- Travel to global Vibrantz locations as required.
Required Experience
- M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent discipline) and minimum 10 years of work experience in a hydrometallurgical/chemical manufacturing or processing environment.
- Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing required.
- Ability to operate in a self-directed manner and make independent decisions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Experience
- Ability to read or to converse in Spanish and/or Chinese preferred.
