Job Description: Receiving & Putaway Specialist


Position Summary
The Receiving & Putaway Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate, timely, and efficient flow of inbound products into the distribution center. This role oversees the unloading, verification, and documentation of incoming shipments, and organizes inventory into designated storage locations following company standards. The Specialist works closely with warehouse leads and operations management to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and a clean, safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inbound Receiving
     
    • Unload inbound shipments using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material-handling equipment.
       
    • Verify incoming products against purchase orders, packing slips, and bills of lading.
       
    • Inspect shipments for damage, shortages, or discrepancies and report issues promptly.
       
    • Accurately document receipt of goods in ERP/WMS systems.
       
  • Putaway & Inventory Management
     
    • Transport and store received goods in assigned warehouse locations following safety and efficiency protocols.
       
    • Ensure product is placed in correct bin locations, racks, or shelves to maintain inventory accuracy.
       
    • Rotate stock and apply FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.
       
    • Maintain clear labeling and organization of warehouse storage areas.
       
  • Quality & Compliance
     
    • Adhere to all safety procedures, including PPE usage and equipment operation guidelines.
       
    • Assist with cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory audits.
       
    • Support compliance with company SOPs, OSHA, and DOT requirements.
       
  • Collaboration & Communication
     
    • Work closely with warehouse clerks, squad leaders, and drivers to ensure smooth daily operations.
       
    • Participate in daily huddles to align on goals and shift priorities.
       
    • Provide feedback on receiving or putaway challenges and suggest process improvements.

       

Schedule & Reporting

  • Full-time, warehouse shift schedule (typically 7 AM – 3:30 PM, or until work is complete).
     
  • Reports directly to the Warehouse Lead or Operations Manager.
     

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly rate based on experience ($14.50 - $18 starting).

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).  
  • 1–3 years of warehouse, distribution, or logistics experience preferred.  
  • Forklift certification or willingness to become certified.  
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.  
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on feet throughout shift.  
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with ERP/WMS systems.
