- Oficina en Van Nuys
Description
What This Is
RDI is hiring a Senior Controller to own the finance function end to end. You will lead our monthly close, GAAP financial statements, ASC 606 revenue recognition, the billing tracker, lender reporting, and the forward forecast model. You will also oversee the outsourced accounting team that supports our day-to-day financials, AP, and AR. You work in person at our Van Nuys office.
This is a role with real ownership at a thirty-person, PE-backed specialty CRO. The function has good bones, an engaged CEO, and an outsourced partner already handling the day-to-day. We are looking for someone to step in and elevate the work.
The Work
The monthly close is the foundation. Revenue is recognized on a cost-based input method under ASC 606 — Cumulative Actuals ÷ EAC × TCV, study by study — and getting it right matters to the board, the lender, and the operating team. The billing tracker is how we connect work performed to invoices issued, and we want someone who will own it, not inherit it.
You will oversee our outsourced accounting partner, who handles the bookkeeping, AP processing, and AR. The relationship works, and your job is to direct it, hold it to a standard, and decide what to keep outsourced versus bring in house as we grow. You will own monthly borrowing-base reporting, covenant compliance with our lender, and the forecast model we share with the board each quarter and rely on between meetings.
The Culture
Thirty people, growing thoughtfully. You will work closely with the CEO, who has a background and education in finance and is engaged in the numbers. You will be close to every meaningful decision the company makes — capital, hiring, pricing, study economics — and your work will inform all of them. We try to make that visibility feel like opportunity, not pressure.
We are a modern, technology-forward company, and we expect this seat to operate that way. The scope is broader than a traditional Senior Controller role because we believe one strong person, well supported by good systems, can carry it. We are looking for someone who agrees and is excited to prove it.
Who We Look For
Five to eight years of progressive accounting experience. CPA strongly preferred. Project-based services revenue recognition is a meaningful part of the work, so we are looking for candidates who have run ETC/EAC against contract value in a clinical research, CDMO, consulting, construction, or similar services environment.
Experience directing an outsourced accounting partner or a small in-house team is a plus — we want someone who can hold a partner to a standard, give clear feedback, and decide over time what is best kept outside the company and what is worth bringing in house.
The best fit is someone a little underleveraged in their current seat — technically strong, ambitious, and ready to own a full function rather than a slice of one. We are not looking for a long-tenured Controller winding down. We are looking for someone whose next move is up, and who sees this seat as the way to get there.
We also value range. The accounting work is the core of the role, but the right person will see opportunities to make the business run better outside of finance — process, systems, vendor relationships, operating reporting — and will take them. We are not looking for someone who watches the boundary of their job description. We are looking for someone who treats the company as their own and acts accordingly.
The Salary
$150,000 – $175,000, with room to move for the right candidate. We will share full benefits, equity considerations, and bonus structure in our first conversation.
Why Join
Because you want to own a finance function rather than support one. Because you want to work alongside a CEO who understands the numbers and will engage with your work seriously. Because the scope of what one person in this seat can do is changing, and you would rather be at a company that has already noticed.
This role is on-site in Van Nuys, five days a week. We have built the culture around being in the same room, and that is not something we plan to change.
