Position Summary: Dedicated responsible Afterschool Teacher capable of providing a safe, educationally stimulating, and nurturing learning environment for the students grades Kinder-2nd in the program. Responsible for providing an environment of team teaching within a classroom and creating a respectful classroom environment for the students and afterschool program staff.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensures a safe, warm, welcoming, friendly, and nurturing environment for students and parents both within the classroom and throughout the center.
2. Promotes and builds positive, respectful professional relationships with parents and staff.
3. Plans, prepares, and implements an approved curriculum that includes developing lesson plans and activities that promote STEAM, CODING, and literacy to support children’s learning.
4. Leads activities designed to help children in the development of essential skills and helps foster positive self-esteem of children in the program.
5. Performs related duties as required.
6. Assists children with assignments and homework such as reading, writing, and math.
7. Preparing learning materials and equipment, such as books, arts and crafts, stationery, and other supplies as needed.
8. Responsible for the supervision, health, and safety of all children in the program.
9. Meeting with parents to discuss their children’s performance and any areas in need of improvement.
10. Maintaining an organized and clean outdoor environment the encourages creativity and learning.
11. Ensuring that all school rules, policies, and guidelines are adhered to in the classroom.
12. Promotes participation of students, school staff, volunteers, and parents.
13. Responsible for preparing outdoor play equipment, and materials for activities daily.
14. Responsible for maintaining classroom clean. For example, vacuuming classroom after snack, taking trash out, wiping tables daily.
15. Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms after daily use.
16. Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing laptops after daily use.
17. Responsible for charging laptops and putting away laptop cart in secure classroom at the end of each program day.
18. Responsible for equipment and supporting materials provided by EXPL after school program like walkie talkies, iPad, or staff laptops.
19. Responsible for notifying Site Supervisor if and when equipment like laptops, walkie talkies or classrooms and outdoor furniture are in poor condition, in need of repair or need to be replaced.
20. Promotes diversity and tolerance in the classroom (evident in lesson plans).
21. Responsible for assuring that all parents sign children in and out in an eligible manner.
22. Ensures daily attendance is taken and turned in when due.
23. Turns in absence slip forms when due. Is responsible for getting slips filled out by parents and completing the forms by monthly due dates.
24. Collaborates in preparation and planning of South Central LAMP special events.
25. Participates in and conducts general staff development, professional development, training, and regular staff meetings as required.
26. Responsible for the supervision, health, and safety of all children in the afterschool program. Is aware of allergies, medical conditions, medications needed, and keeps hazardous materials away from classroom and students at all times. Responsible for asking Program Coordinator for any of the information above.
27. Responsible for completing Mandated Reporting and Pesticide or any additional trainings required by program by yearly due date.
28. Local travel as necessary to fulfill after school grant requirements. For example, SOON EXPL STAFF WILL PICK students up FROM 49TH Street Elementary and Sally Ride Elementary.
29. Accommodates special requests from parents whenever possible.
30. Perform related duties as assigned by Program Coordinator.
31. Is flexible and performs additional duties as needed.
SUMMARY OF MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES FOR CACFP FOOD PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for preparing daily meals.
2. Responsible for the serving and tracking of meals served to the children during mealtimes.
3. Responsible for completing meal count forms and turning them in by due date to Program Coordinator.
HEALTH AND SAFETY-
1. Complies with applicable universal precautions and infection control guidelines and procedures.
2. Reports immediately any needed repairs to Program Coordinator.
3. Assists calmly in evacuation of the building in an emergency and in practice drills and is able to respond to any emergency.
COMMUNICABLE DISEASE GUIDELINES (TO BE IMPLEMENTED DURING HIGH RISK VIRAL TRENDS AS SPECIFIED BY DEPARMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH)-
- Responsible for ensuring that Indoor and outdoor activities are carried out in stable groups that maintain physical distancing among children and between children and staff (“stable” means the same children and staff are in the same group each day)
- Responsible for keeping children in the same household (i.e. siblings) grouped together whenever possible.
- Responsible for keeping stable groups as small as feasible.
- Responsible for ensuring groups do not mix with each other in classrooms, outdoor spaces, or any common space within the facility.
- Responsible for Classrooms are rearrangements as needed to put 3 feet between activity stations, tables, and chairs.
- Responsible for making sure sharing of toys and materials is prevented. Each child has use of a backpack or a large Ziplock bag for individual materials.
- Each child is assigned a specific bin or other container for their individual materials, clothing, and other possessions.
- If unable to teach on site, responsible for completing synchronous online teaching through the use of ZOOM or any other online teaching program available to the site.
- The employee will need to wear a mask at all times or until the Public Health Department deems it unnecessary.
Requirements
1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, possibly run, or jog after children, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear. The employee is often required to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
