Opening in September 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is dedicated to illustrated storytelling. Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum’s collection features works by artists including Norman Rockwell, Kadir Nelson, Jessie Willcox Smith, N. C. Wyeth, Beatrix Potter, Judith F. Baca, Frida Kahlo, and Maxfield Parrish; as well as comic art legends such as Winsor McCay, Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, Alison Bechdel, Chris Ware, and R. Crumb; and photographers Gordon Parks, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Dorothea Lange. The Museum also houses the Lucas Archives, containing models, props, concept art, and costumes from Lucas’s filmmaking career.
Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD with a landscape by Mia Lehrer of Studio-MLA, the Museum is in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, on an 11-acre campus that includes new green space and a 300,000-square-foot building with galleries, two theaters, a library, restaurant, café, retail store, and community spaces.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Lucas Museum seeks a results-driven Manager, Retail Warehouse on our Revenue & Engagement team to help lead retail warehouse operations in support of the opening and ongoing operations of the Museum’s retail store. Reporting to the Director of Retail & Licensing Strategy, this role will be responsible for managing back-of-house inventory and merchandise to ensure availability of products that enhance the visitor experience. They will also lead a team of retail warehouse associates, providing coaching and development to team members to foster a positive and dynamic work environment.
Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operations of the Museum’s retail warehouse, including inventory intake, storage, allocation, and distribution
Oversee product flow from receiving through distribution to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with retail demand
Ensure retail merchandise is properly staged, allocated, and delivered to sales channels on time, directly supporting sales performance and customer experience
Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for warehouse and inventory management in alignment with Retail leadership
Support warehouse opening procedures, including staffing plans, operational readiness, and inventory setup
Build and manage a high-volume warehouse operation, ensuring efficient workflows and organization
Maintain accurate inventory records and oversee cycle counts, audits, and reporting to ensure inventory integrity
Coordinate with vendors and suppliers regarding deliveries, discrepancies, and logistics; serve as the primary escalation point for inventory-related issues
Supervise, schedule, and support back-of-house retail staff, including assigning work, monitoring productivity, and managing performance
Provide training, coaching, and ongoing feedback to Retail Warehouse Associates in partnership with Retail leadership
Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, inventory control practices, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations
Partner with the People & Culture team to support hiring, onboarding, and training of warehouse staff
Collaborate with Retail and Revenue & Engagement teams to support product launches, restocks, and promotions through effective inventory execution

Qualifications
10+ years of experience in a Retail Operations role, preferably for an arts & cultural institution or prominent consumer brand
7+ years of management experience hiring, training, and coaching retail staff
Knowledge of retail inventory management
Knowledge of health and safety standards and maintaining OSHA compliant operations in California
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Excellent team management skills
