Burke's is an independent K-8 gender-inclusive all-girls’ school located on a 3.5-acre campus in San Francisco and is one of California’s leading elementary schools with a 117-year tradition of educational excellence. Position Summary
The Director of After School and Summer Programs (“Director”) is responsible for three distinct programs:
- After-school childcare (Tree House & Study Tree Programs)
- After-school Enrichment Program (ASEP)
- Summer Programs
The Director creates and implements inclusive and engaging extended care and summer programs for students in grades K-8, works across Lower and Upper schools with faculty, staff, parents, and outside vendors to ensure that all programming reflects the school’s mission and complements the school’s curriculum. The Director also manages the daily fiscal and administrative duties associated with after-school and summer programming. In addition to being knowledgeable and experienced in best practices in the area of after-school program management, the ideal candidate is dynamic, interested in learning and growing as a professional, and able to manage employees while collaborating effectively with colleagues.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create and implement the ASEP curriculum for Fall, Winter and Spring trimesters each year, including all advertising, registration, vendor management, and invoicing.
- Train, supervise, and manage the performance and professional development of Tree House (2) and Study Tree (2) employees.
- Manage the use of space for all after-school activities, working closely with colleagues from other departments.
- Manage the registration process for all three programs and manage changes during the year. Process payments and maintain detailed financial records year-round.
- Maintain communications as needed with all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, staff members, and outside contractors.
- Hire, train, and supervise staff for all after-school programs.
- Partner closely with HR to ensure all onboarding and training requirements are completed for new hires and independent contractors supporting ASEP, Tree House, and Summer programs.
- Partner with the Director of Communications to create website registration pages and advertising for after-school and summer programs.
- Participate in the professional life of the school (attend staff meetings, serve on committees, etc.).
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- Proven collaborator with a history of working closely with a variety of colleagues
- Experience in conflict resolution and/or social-emotional learning
- Strong organizational and project-management skills
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and InDesign
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience supervising large groups of children in both indoor and outdoor settings
- Strong preference for independent school and private camp leadership experience

Compensation
Burke’s offers competitive compensation ranging from $89,950 - $110,448, based on experience plus position requirements. Comprehensive benefits are provided, including 7.5% retirement plan contribution for eligible employees. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2026, for planning and team-building.
