The Work
 
The Commercial Analyst provides exceptional sales and service support to the Commercial Account Management team. This role is accountable for supporting the Business Enterprise Solutions origination team in the preparation, execution, and fulfillment of Equitable Bank commercial mortgage products between $500,000 and $5,000,000. In this role, the Commercial Analyst must be knowledgeable about Equitable Bank’s commercial mortgage products and processes while having a good understanding of all underwriting, risk, and compliance (and funding) guidelines

The core parts of your role would be to:

1) Sales and Service Support (70%)

  • Process transactions accurately and within specified timeframes, in accordance with company policies & procedures and applicable legislative/regulatory requirements.
  • Assess deal packages and make recommendations on potential deal structures or issues on deals to the Account Managers and credit teams.
  • Communicate effectively with the commercial mortgage coordinator and underwriting team to ensure that the department operates efficiently.
  • Attention to detail is imperative in supporting the Account Managers: Support tasks include; CIF and real state searches, ROE calculations, analyses of small commercial transactions including Debt Service calculations, BDSR and TDSR, preparation of Letters of Intent and Loan Summaries.
  • Provide friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, and professional customer service to brokers, partners, and direct clients, following up on documentation, identifying opportunities and initiating qualified leads.
  • Identify and advise the Commercial Account Managers of any potential credit risk issues.
  • Carry out other role related delegated tasks as identified by the Commercial Account Managers.
  • 2) Operational Effectiveness (30%)

  • Understand and adhere to regulatory and compliance requirements, including but not limited to Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Finance Reporting requirements, company policies and procedures, legal and ethical requirements, process requirements and established risk guidelines.
  • Recommend workflow and administrative process alternatives to improve efficiencies and customer service.
  • Organize and prepare files for submission to credit/underwriting addressing all issues/concerns associated with each loan transaction.
  • Support the Commercial Account Managers in their absence by answering questions, gathering information, and addressing concerns as they arise through the underwriting or funding process, while escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Manage the ‘pipeline’ to ensure transactions are processed in a timely and efficient manner to deliver superior service to brokers, partners, and direct clients.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Account Managers in acquiring and retaining profitable broker relationships.
  • Participate in brokerage, industry, and company events (sales presentations, lender appreciation programs, holiday, and special occasion programs) as required to promote Equitable Bank and our products.

  • Job Complexities/Thinking Challenges

    The job requires advanced multi-tasking skills. The ability to be well organized and thorough in your analyses and job functions while managing incoming phone calls and e-mails from brokers is crucial to success in this role. The ability to sell commercial products considering rigorous competition is critical to success in the role. The incumbent is required to follow EQB guidelines to work through files efficiently and accurately however, many unique situations can arise, and the individual must be able to respond well to these situations. The incumbent must also understand the roles of underwriting and funding as well as be mindful of closing dates to successfully manage their files.

    The incumbent will be working hybrid and in office time will be spent working from Equitable Bank’s additional office space located at 2200-25 Ontario Street, Toronto, ON.
