As the Manager of Fleet Testing & Repair on Zoox's Base Operations team, you will be responsible for leading the strategic setup and execution of tests on Zoox development vehicles. You will work closely with Base Operations Leadership and Engineering to drive new operational initiatives, establish key performance indicators, and ensure we stay hyper-focused on roadmap progression for our Zoox Test Fleet and Robotaxi vehicles. This role involves overseeing testing activities across various vehicle systems, including vehicle performance, crash testing, noise and vibration (NVH), thermal performance, strength, and durability. An ideal candidate is a change-maker with a strong operational background, a positive attitude, and the ability to remain calm in a rapid-paced environment. This role requires you to tackle ambiguity head-on and deliver a best-in-class commercial product.
In this role, you will:
Effectively manage the Vehicle Test Technician team and cross-functional relationships to ensure the execution of engineering testing initiatives and improve testing processes.
Provide mentoring, accountability, and performance management for direct reports to ensure the team stays aligned with testing initiatives and company milestones.
Strategically forecast team growth that aligns with our company roadmap, with heavy engagement in the recruiting and hiring process for workshop personnel.
Define and execute against objectives and KPIs, positively reinforce your team, and help them reach their and Zoox's mission.
Forecast and oversee the testing team's budget.
Optimize current workstreams to reduce downtime during test prep, DAQ configuration, and vehicle updates, providing more uptime for engineering-level testing.
Partner with vehicle engineering teams to support root cause analysis of full vehicle-level issues and oversee the analysis and reporting of test data.
Enforce all environmental, health, and safety policies and raise the bar for safety in the workshop.
Ensure the workshop area is clean, organized, and free of dangerous and/or hazardous material.
Qualifications
8+ years of transportation or automotive industry experience, preferably with experience in an automotive-focused engineering or research lab (i.e., Dyno, Battery, etc.).
5+ years of managing teams of 10 or more people across multiple projects.
Strong leadership, organizational, and operational skill sets.
Experience working with test equipment and extensive knowledge of methods used in testing areas like NVH, vehicle dynamics, thermal, strength, and durability.
Communicates clearly and effectively; comfortable engaging with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
Builds cross-functional relationships that help the team scale.
Is able to remain calm and clear-headed in stressful situations.
Ability to travel locally and nationally (40% or more of the time).
Bonus Qualifications
Proficiency in Jira/Confluence, SAP ERP, MS Office, Google Suites, Lucid Charts, and Slack.
Experience with ADAS and/or autonomous platforms, alongside a general understanding of electric vehicle architecture.
