Internship Snapshot:

The Finance Department is looking for an Intern II with a focus on Treasury, someone who is detail-oriented, curious, and interested in understanding how the organization manages its financial resources on a day-to-day basis. This role provides hands-on experience supporting cash flow forecasting, investment activity, and financial reporting, offering a practical look at how financial decisions are made and maintained within the public sector.

This internship is centered on accuracy, consistency, and continuous improvement. You’ll work with the Treasury team to support regular processes, maintain financial data, and help improve how information is tracked and reported. Over time, you’ll begin to see how small details in financial data connect to larger financial outcomes, and how strong processes support sound decision-making.

This role is ideal for students pursuing careers in finance, economics, or accounting, including those early in their academic journey who are ready to apply what they’ve learned. A strong interest in Excel is important—you should be comfortable working with formulas and willing to build your skills as you support day-to-day financial tasks.

What You’ll Do:

  • Cash Flow Forecasting: Assist with the weekly cash flow forecast, helping track expected inflows and outflows and supporting updates based on new information.
  • Process Improvement & Automation: Support efforts to improve and automate financial processes, including improvements to weekly cash forecasting and streamlining monthly investment account entries.
  • Investment & Reporting Support: Assist with maintaining investment records, financial schedules, and disclosure tables, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Excel & Data Support: Work extensively in Excel to organize data, perform analysis, and support day-to-day financial operations.

Requirements

Ready to Fly? Educational Qualifications for Airport Interns*:

1. Students currently enrolled* in at least twelve (12) units at an accredited college may qualify.

2. Students in their final semester or quarter who need less than full-time enrollment to graduate with four (4) year degree need only be enrolled part-time in courses required for degree completion.

3. Educational major must be related to area of interest.

Pre-Flight Checklist: SAN Internship Onboarding:

Joining our Summer Internship program at the Airport Authority is an exciting opportunity, and we want to ensure a smooth onboarding process for the selected interns. Before the selected interns receive their boarding passes this summer, please take note of the following pre-conditions that must be fulfilled and approved prior to taking flight in our Summer Internship program:

  • Post-Offer Pre-Employment Medical Examination and Substance Test:

Successful completion of a post-offer pre-employment medical examination and an alcohol/chemical substance test is mandatory.

  • FBI Background Investigation:

A thorough background investigation, including an FBI fingerprint based criminal history records check, of your references and employment/education history from the last 10 years will be conducted. This includes a visit to our Access Control Office inside Terminal 2 in the San Diego International Airport, be camera ready!

  • Proof of Citizenship or Legal Authorization:

Submission of documentation proving citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States is essential, complying with the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

  • Completion of Onboarding Forms:

Timely completion of all required onboarding forms.
