Vice President of Contracting – Mental Health

The Vice President of Contracting reports directly to the senior executive team, leading the procurement, negotiation, and management of all contracts related to mental health services. This includes proactively building and maintaining relationships with insurance companies, government agencies, and other critical partners to optimize the financial and operational performance of the organization’s mental health programs. Impact in this role directly enables Serenity to continue to expand and help an ever-increasing number of patients on their healing journeys. Collaboration is important at Serenity and this is an on-site leadership position.

Primary Responsibilities
- Proactively prospect, pursue and negotiate new contracts with commercial insurers, government programs, and other third-party payers for mental health services
- Manage existing contracts to ensure compliance and identify opportunities to improve contract terms and reimbursement rates
- Foster strong, collaborative relationships with payer organizations, healthcare providers, and key stakeholders to support mental health service delivery
- Analyze payer trends, market changes, and regulatory requirements to inform contracting strategies and ensure competitive positioning
- Work cross-functionally with finance, operations, and legal teams in ensuring contracting decisions improve the organization’s financial health
- Analyze performance metrics to drive improved outcomes, reduced costs and enhanced service delivery
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to mental health services
- Maintain an always-current understanding of evolving regulations, industry standards, and best practices in mental health contracting
Qualities We’re Looking For
- At least 10 years of experience as a senior leader negotiating healthcare contracts in multi-state organizations – specifically behavioral health contracts. Should include in-company experience
- Existing relationships with top payors in some if not most of the states that Serenity currently operates in
- Strong track record of procuring contracts with insurers, government entities, and third-party vendors
- Strong understanding of mental health service reimbursement models and government programs such as Medicaid and Medicare
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial and contractual data
- Organized person who can maintain communications with dozens if not hundreds of payors at a times
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Understanding and experience with negotiating Single Case Agreements
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance, particularly as they relate to mental health services
