Performs the carpentry duties necessary to maintain in good repair building woodwork and equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors, floors, stairs, casings, and trim made of wood. Work involves most of the following: Planning and laying out of work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions, using a variety of carpenter's hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments; making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work; and selecting materials necessary for the work. In general, the work of the maintenance carpenter requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience

Salary

$36.16/ hr. plus $10.00 fringe benefits used towards insurance and 401k!

Job Skills Requirements:

• Ability to use and knowledge of all tools and equipment that are used by the craft.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, construction drawings, schematics and diagrams as they pertain to the craft.
• Ability to perform work of the craft in a rapid and efficient manner under extreme conditions.
• Ability to perform work safely under hazardous conditions.
• Ability to trouble shoot and repair most complex problems.
• Expert knowledge of craft theory and craft materials with the ability to apply the theory and select the proper materials.
• Must have the ability to operate numerous equipment for the trade i.e. forklifts, scissor/man lifts, bobcat backhoe, etc.
• Must be able to operate any industrial size tools to complete all tasks i.e. table saws, band saws, planers, sanders and routers.

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.
• Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
• Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Must be capable of lifting 75 lbs. unassisted.

• Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.
• Must have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication.
• Must be able speak, write, read, and understand English.
• Must have a well-mannered customer service attitude.
• Must be willing to cross-train in other areas.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and not hold multiple citizenships.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
• Must be a current SMS employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

• Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License.
• Metal building component experience.
• Concrete form setting and finishing abilities.

The Heating Ventilation and Air- Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanic installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout, mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment, and installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools.
