Job Overview
The Expeditor Supervisor will oversee day-to-day expediting and production control activities across the manufacturing floor. This role is responsible for ensuring work flows efficiently through production by actively prioritizing jobs, identifying and root-causing production blockers, and driving timely resolution of material, engineering, and execution constraints.
This role provides floor-level leadership for the expediting function and serves as the primary interface between production, engineering, and supply chain. The Expeditor Supervisor is expected to use data analytics, MRP systems, and real-time floor visibility to maintain schedule adherence, ensure efficient material movement, and reduce execution risk.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise and mentor a team of expeditors and production control personnel
Establish clear expectations around prioritization, escalation, and communication
Train and develop team members in expediting and production control best practices
Evaluate performance, set standards, and conduct regular feedback and assessments
Foster a culture of accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement
Expediting & Production Control Oversight
Own daily production priorities and expediting execution across manufacturing areas
Utilize MRP and production control systems to ensure accurate material visibility, readiness, and movement
Coordinate expediting activities to resolve material shortages, kitting gaps, and readiness issues
Balance competing priorities using data-driven decision making to maintain flow and meet delivery timelines
Partner with Production Supervisors to align floor execution with production priorities
Ensure handoffs between production areas are planned, tracked, and executed
Operational Execution & Root Cause Analysis
Track WIP, constraints, and schedule adherence across production stages
Identify bottlenecks, aging WIP, material shortages, and at-risk builds
Root cause production blockers related to material availability, engineering holds, capacity, or process gaps
Drive issue resolution through coordination with engineering, supply chain, and production leadership
Provide clear, concise daily status updates on production health, risks, and mitigation actions
Maintain execution discipline during changing priorities or disruptions
KPI & Performance Management
Own and maintain KPIs for expediting and production control effectiveness
Leverage data analytics to evaluate performance, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement
Track and report on metrics such as:
Schedule adherence
WIP aging
Expedite effectiveness
Material readiness and shortages
Engineering hold time
Use data to support prioritization decisions and improve execution outcomes
Identify systemic issues impacting throughput, material flow, and delivery performance
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Production Supervisors to ensure alignment between plan and execution
Partner with engineering teams to understand and mitigate production impacts of changes
Coordinate with supply chain to align material availability with production needs
Support leadership in resource planning to meet weekly and monthly delivery objectives
Provide feedback on process, flow, and execution challenges
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, industrial engineering, operations, supply chain, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, expediting, production control, or supply chain execution
Prior experience leading or supervising expediting, production control, or operations teams
Strong experience using MRP systems to manage material flow, priorities, and readiness
Demonstrated ability to use data analytics to drive decisions and identify root causes of execution issues
Strong understanding of manufacturing flow, constraints, and execution tradeoffs
Experience working closely with engineering and supply chain teams
Proven ability to prioritize under pressure and manage competing demands
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Occasional standing and walking within the office.
Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
Visual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports.
Occasional reaching, bending, or stooping to access file drawers, cabinets, or office supplies.
Lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, packages).
