Building on its extensive programming and successful model in the United States, KIND is expanding in the Americas and Europe to bring its experience to bear in working with unaccompanied and separated children. Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President, Development, KIND seeks a Director, Development Operations stands to have a significant impact on organizational and revenue growth across multiple revenue streams and offers an opportunity to work at the ground level on the design and build out of a sophisticated and integrated set of systems, procedures and streamline operations to elevate fundraising efficiency. The Director will streamline systems across the individual and institutional giving teams and lead coordination with Finance. The incumbent will act as a thought partner to the Vice President, Development on streamlining systems, strengthening cross-organization collaboration, and interdepartmental management.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced operations professional with a passion for KIND’s mission and the lives of unaccompanied children. The Director, Development Operations will demonstrate strong project management skills, be a self-starter, an experienced and motivating supervisor, and bring curiosity to the exploration of new and innovative systems.
This is a remote position based from any location in the U.S.
This position is contingent upon continued funding.
Essential Functions
Development Operations and Project Management
Project manage requests and strategic initiatives from the Vice President of Development, and other members of Development’s Senior Leadership Team, as needed.
Coordinate and track progress on cross-functional projects, ensuring timely completion and alignment with departmental goals and organizational priorities.
Prepare agendas, materials, and follow-up action items for Development leadership meetings, ensuring effective communication and accountability.
Propose mitigation strategies that reduce inter-departmental team silos and increase collaboration across funding streams.
Provide scheduling and other executive assistance to the Vice President of Development.
Team Management
In partnership with the Vice President of Development, develop and operationalize strategies for sustainable revenue growth.
Work across fundraising teams (Individual Giving and Events, and Institutional Development) to understand the needs and requirements of each team and determine how operations can best support annual fundraising goals.
Build reports and dashboards that allow the Vice President of Development and other frontline fundraising colleagues to strategically focus their efforts.
With the Vice President of Development, project manage fundraising reports for the Board, the Development team’s annual operating plan, and the annual work plan.
Oversee the Development department budget, vendor contracts, and midyear department reforecasting of revenue and expenses.
Stakeholder and Cross-Departmental Collaboration
Partner with Finance, Communications, and other departments organization-wide to streamline processes, share resources, and advance institutional priorities.
Collaborate with the Manager of Data and System Operations and Manager of Prospect Research and Portfolio Optimization to refine systems, platforms, and vehicles for fundraising outcomes and position KIND to exceed revenue goals.
Maintain and organize departmental files and donor collateral to ensure easy access and consistent documentation.
Lead logistics for donor events and departmental staff events involving the whole team and/or other stakeholders, both virtual and in-person, and order supplies and stationery for staff.
Organize team meetings and team-building opportunities to foster collaboration, engagement, and a positive team culture.
Keep online files, shared drives, and other administrative tools up to date and well-organized.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies and contribute to risk management, business continuity planning, and operational reporting as appropriate for a $20+ million global organization.
Team Leadership and Supervision
Directly supervise two Development Coordinators, providing mentorship, professional development opportunities, and regular performance feedback.
Manage and assign executive assistance to the Vice President, Development, including scheduling and other administrative tasks as requested.
Set clear goals and expectations for direct reports, conduct performance evaluations, and support career growth within the organization.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that promotes accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Manage workload distribution and prioritization to ensure team efficiency and timely completion of departmental objectives.
Systems Integration and Process Improvement
Evaluate, implement, and integrate development technologies to streamline operations and enhance fundraising capacity.
Identify opportunities for process automation and workflow optimization to increase operational efficiency across the development team.
Develop and document standard operating procedures for all development operations functions to ensure consistency and institutional knowledge retention.
Partner with cross-functional teams including finance, communications, and programs to ensure seamless project management and project collaboration.
Qualifications and Requirements
Undergraduate degree in administration, organizational development, operations, or an equivalent focus.
Minimum of 5 years of supervisory management experience within a nonprofit organization.
Familiarity and commitment to KIND’s mission and programmatic priorities.
Proficient in CRM systems, reporting, and administration, experience with Salesforce a plus.
Strong project management skills and ability to multi-task projects/priorities and emerging opportunities.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (such as Teams, Excel, etc.).
Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment; ability to prioritize tasks and delegate as appropriate.
Ability to multitask and work with a sense of urgency in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated experience streamlining workflows and processes across teams.
Committed to practicing and supporting wellbeing and a work-home life balance.
Experience working and communicating in a remote environment preferred but not required.
