Description

We are seeking a highly organized and solution-driven Production Manager to oversee the execution of fast-paced, creative projects. Reporting functionally to the Production Director and working under the direction of Project Managers, this hybrid role bridges production planning with hands-on oversight across departments.

Production Managers operate with a holistic understanding of project scope, constraints, and downstream impacts, enabling effective production planning and execution across the project lifecycle. This role actively leads prototyping and sampling to validate production methods, materials, finishes, assemblies, and construction details prior to final production. Working closely across departments, the Production Manager keeps project teams aligned, informed, and equipped to meet project goals – ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

The ideal candidate is resourceful, collaborative, curious, and thrives in an environment where priorities can shift quickly, with the intent of delivering exceptional results.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $100,000 (Dependent on experience)

•Serve as the operational lead on assigned projects, coordinating production efforts across departments including design, wood, metal, machine, print, paint, electrical, soft goods, and installation.

•Work under the direction of Project Managers to meet project schedules, scope, budgets, and quality expectations.

•Report to the Production Director for functional oversight, resource planning, workflow optimization, and production scheduling and forecasting.

•Develop and manage production plans, schedules, and priorities to support efficient prototyping, fabrication, and installation.

•Coordinate labor, materials, hardware, and shop capacity in collaboration with Lead Fabricators and Department Heads.

•Support Project Managers with material and hardware selection during estimating, prototyping, and production planning.

•Remain actively involved in fabrication and assembly as needed, owning limited-scope projects as shop capacity allows.

•Proactively identify risks, bottlenecks, and operational challenges while developing creative, cost-effective solutions to keep production moving and avoid delays.

•Develop, organize, and maintain accurate, version-controlled project documentation – including schedules, timelines, SOW tracking, technical drawings, QC checklists, installation and strike plans, and load-out logistics.

•Monitor and uphold quality and craft throughout production, ensuring final products align with design intent, structural and safety requirements, and client expectations.

•Contribute to on-site installations and strikes through planning and execution – including staffing, sequencing, staging, rigging coordination, site protection, storage, and reuse.

•Oversee packing, crating, labeling, and preparation of completed work to ensure safe handling and shipping.

•Foster a productive production environment by encouraging open feedback and incorporating input into project execution.

•Improve production workflows and inform future planning through collaboration with leadership.

•Support the Production Director in reinforcing standards, collaboration, and skill development across the fabrication team.

Requirements

•High school diploma or equivalent; background in the arts preferred.

•5+ years of experience in fabrication and production management in fast-paced creative production workshops.

•Demonstrated ability to balance production oversight with hands-on fabrication.

•Advanced working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, machinery, and shop safety practices.

•Strong ability to read, interpret, and work from shop and architectural drawings.

•Solid understanding of materials, hardware, and production methods across multiple disciplines.

•Proven ability to plan, sequence, and coordinate production efforts across multiple teams and disciplines.

•Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.

•Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Rhino a plus.

•Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

•Highly organized, detail-oriented, and punctual, with strong time management and multitasking abilities.

•Maintains a calm, professional, solution-driven attitude in high-pressure environments.

•Demonstrates initiative, reliability, and a strong sense of accountability.

•Ability to lift 50+ lbs and remain standing for extended periods.

•Must be flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to work occasional extended hours, including overnight, and weekends, when necessary.

•Willingness to travel outside the NY metro area, including flights and overnight stays when required.
