POSITION SUMMARY
Eligo Battery Storage is seeking a Director of Grid-Scale Battery Storage to lead the development, financing, and execution of utility-scale and behind-the-meter battery energy storage systems (BESS) across NYISO, ISO-NE, and PJM markets.
This role will be responsible for delivering 5–10 grid-scale battery projects, utilizing 5-hour and 10-hour battery technologies supplied through a joint venture with TerraFlow Energy. The Director will oversee projects from market selection and financial modeling through land acquisition, interconnection, financing, EPC contracting, and construction start, with a mandate to commence construction on the first project no later than Q4 2026. The Director will select and work with multiple contractors and consultants, performing some of the work him/herself and outsourcing other elements.
The role requires deep experience in energy storage economics, ISO market structures, project finance, incentive programs, and infrastructure development, with the ability to execute through internal teams and external partners.
Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Market Development
- Develop and execute Eligo Battery Storage’s grid-scale and behind-the-meter battery deployment strategy across NYISO, ISO-NE, and PJM.
- Identify and prioritize optimal markets, use cases, and battery configurations (5-hour vs. 10-hour).
- Align TerraFlow Energy battery technology capabilities with market, regulatory, and interconnection requirements.
Incentives, Policy & Regulatory Management
- Maintain current expertise in federal, state, and utility-level incentive programs, including tax credits, grants, and competitive solicitations.
- Lead application, bidding, and negotiation processes for government and utility incentive programs.
- Incorporate incentive assumptions into financial models and project selection decisions.
- Monitor ISO rule changes and regulatory developments affecting energy storage revenues.
Site Origination, Land & Interconnection
- Identify, evaluate, and secure sites for both front-of-the-meter and behind-the-meter battery projects.
- Negotiate land leases, purchase options, easements, and site control agreements.
- Lead ISO and utility interconnection processes, including queue submissions, system studies, and utility coordination.
- Evaluate interconnection costs, risks, and timelines to inform project prioritization.
Financial Modeling & Project Evaluation
- Develop or oversee detailed project-level financial models for multiple locations and market structures.
- Model revenues from capacity, energy arbitrage, ancillary services, and customer savings (for BTM projects).
- Evaluate capital costs, degradation, augmentation, incentives, interconnection expenses, and operating costs.
- Rank and select the top five most viable projects based on financial returns, risk profile, and execution readiness.
Financing & Commercial Structuring
- Engage banks, tax equity investors, infrastructure funds, and strategic partners to secure project financing.
- Evaluate and negotiate financing structures, including project finance, tax equity, and joint venture equity.
- Lead commercial negotiations for EPC contracts, O&M agreements, and long-term service and warranty arrangements.
- Coordinate with TerraFlow Energy on battery supply agreements and performance guarantees.
Project Execution & Delivery
- Oversee EPC contractors and development partners through pre-construction and construction phases.
- Manage schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with utilities and ISOs on commissioning, testing, and market registration.
- Ensure projects reach construction start and progress toward commercial operation on schedule.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
- Deliver fully developed and financially modeled top five battery storage projects.
- Secure land control and interconnection positions for multiple viable projects.
- Successfully obtain or qualify for key incentive programs.
- Secure financing for at least one project.
- Achieve approval for start on the first battery project by Q4 2026.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Required
- 7+ years of experience in energy storage, renewable energy, or power infrastructure development.
- Demonstrated experience with NYISO, ISO-NE, and/or PJM markets.
- Strong background in project-level financial modeling and energy market economics.
- Experience negotiating land, EPC, and financing agreements.
- Familiarity with federal and state energy incentives and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across utilities, ISOs, financiers, and contractors.
Preferred
- Direct experience developing or operating grid-scale battery energy storage projects.
- Experience with long-duration energy storage (5-hour+).
- Background in tax equity or infrastructure finance.
- Existing relationships with EPCs, utilities, or financial institutions.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Base Salary: $175,000 annually, or commensurate with experience + benefits
- Performance Bonus: Annual bonus tied to achievement of project milestones, financial performance, and successful deployment objectives
