Carbide Tooling & Industrial Supply (CTIS) is seeking a Tooling Specialist to support our industrial and machining customers across the Greater Houston area. This role focuses on tool selection, application support, troubleshooting machining challenges, and coordinating custom tooling and tool restoration services.

The Tooling Specialist works closely with sales, warehouse, and service teams to ensure customers receive the right tooling solutions for their materials, machines, and production requirements. This position is hands-on and customer-focused, supporting CNC and manual machining operations in real-world shop environments.

This is an on-site and field-based role based out of Waller, TX, with local travel to customer facilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and application guidance for carbide tooling, including inserts, end mills, drills, taps, reamers, and toolholders
• Assist customers with tool selection, speeds and feeds, material compatibility, and process optimization
• Support custom tooling solutions, including specification development and coordination with vendors
• Evaluate worn tooling and coordinate tool regrind and restoration services
• Support CTIS proprietary cutting fluids and coolant products, including proper application and usage guidance
• Troubleshoot machining and tooling issues at customer sites or remotely
• Work closely with outside and inside sales teams to support quotes, technical questions, and customer visits
• Document tooling recommendations, applications, and customer feedback
• Maintain a strong understanding of CTIS product lines and supplier offerings
• Follow all safety procedures when working in customer shops and warehouse environments

Requirements

• Experience working with industrial cutting tools in a machine shop, tooling distributor, or manufacturing environment
• Working knowledge of CNC machining processes, including milling and turning
• Familiarity with carbide tooling, indexable inserts, solid carbide tools, and toolholders
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and machining specifications
• Comfortable working in shop environments around CNC machines, mills, lathes, and related equipment
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to customers and internal teams
• Basic computer skills (email, order systems, documentation)
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to customer facilities
• Ability to lift and handle tooling and related equipment as required for the role
