PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Unit Director will lead and manage overall daily operations of the Port Hueneme Club with the primary goal of a comprehensive, outcome-driven program and services. The Unit Director will supervise and train staff (direct and indirect reports), handle personnel issues, oversee the facility, and manage their budget. Additionally, the Unit Direct will also actively support Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme’s Committee initiatives. Lastly, the Unit Director will manage community relations by collaborating, building, and maintaining relationships with contracted partners, volunteers, and membership administration (MyClub Hub).
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Leadership
- Establish Club programs, activities, and services that prepare youth for success. Learn and utilize BGCA programming to create an outcome-driven Club experience that achieves our desired youth development outcomes.
- Supervise and manage grant-funded programs and initiatives in collaboration with relevant contracted agency. Manage grant requirements in compliance with grant assurance to satisfy grant scope of work, deliverables requirements.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvement by completing an annual site level program quality assessment and safety plan. In cooperation with VP of Programs Services & VP of Operations, develop individual development plans for all staff and trainings.
- Ensure a healthy, safe environment, with well-maintained facilities, equipment and supplies.
- Manage, supervise and formalize youth program initiatives including Brent’s Club, Kindness is Free, Torch Club, Youths of the Month. Encourage club members participation in a variety of programs/activities. Implement Trauma-Informed Practices.
- Create and develop outreach opportunities to nurture growth in daily attendance, registered members, and total youth served. Maintain and file daily attendance reports.
- Attend BGCOP meetings and prepare reports as needed. Participate in the BGCOP Committee Teams.
- Regularly meet with club staff to provide mentorship, communicate program standards, and receive/convey any constructive feedback to improve programming.
Strategic Planning
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure they satisfy objectives and member needs and/or interests. Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation.
- Work with Resource development team by meeting to discuss grant and sponsorship proposals. Track and maintain data for grant reports.
Resource Management
- Assist in the development of annual budgets. Manage expenses against allocated budget.
- Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the Club’s physical properties and equipment, including use of facilities by outside groups. Ensure compliance with organization policies.
- Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for branch staff and volunteers. Conduct regular staff meetings.
- Create and communicate volunteer opportunities as needed and requested.
Partnership Development
- Develop partnerships with parents, local high schools, middle schools, community leaders and organizations.
- Continually build relationships with other youth service organizations and collaborate with other agencies to share and develop programs
Marketing and Public Relations
- Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community. Represent the BGCOP functions as directed.
- Produce and publicize monthly program calendars for youth programs.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and respond to e‐mails, voicemails and other forms of communication in a timely manner
- Participate in BGCOP organizational annual events, special community events, and fundraisers
- Support staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments.
- Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Maintain contact relationship with CEO and Board. Regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.
External: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.
Requirements
- Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
- A minimum of five-year work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
- Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, recruitment and retention of key personnel
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to recruit, train, supervise and motivate staff
- Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems Problem solving, identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully and maintain confidentiality
- Working knowledge of budget preparation, control and management
- Planning/organizing – prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently
- Dependability – consistently at work and on time, follow instructions, respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve performance
- Adaptability – adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and able to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is a combination of standing or sitting for long periods of time to complete tasks or supervise staff and members. You may be required to independently lift packages up to 20lbs or more with the assistance of others.
Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 10am - 6pm; occasional Saturday as required.
