At Machina Labs, we’re reshaping manufacturing through advanced robotics and machine learning. Our platform uses the largest 6-axis robots on the market to form 2D sheets of metal into complex 3D parts, layer-by-layer.
Traditional sheet metal production was designed for scale, not flexibility. It relies on costly dies and tooling that make lower volume projects prohibitively slow and expensive. We’re changing that. Whether you’re a startup building a few thousand airframes or an automaker prototyping next-generation components, Machina Labs gives you the ability to iterate and manufacture at the speed of software.
With support from the venture arms of Toyota, NVIDIA, and Lockheed Martin, we’re accelerating the future of manufacturing, one where factories are flexible, production is on-demand, and innovation is unconstrained.
About the Role
As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern at Machina Labs, you’ll work with a dynamic team to evaluate, design, and optimize manufacturing processes that power next-generation robotics and automation. You will gain hands-on experience implementing tooling, conducting process improvement studies, supporting the build and testing of hardware, and providing actionable feedback to the engineering team. This is a collaborative, fast-paced role ideal for aspiring engineers passionate about digital fabrication and manufacturing excellence.
What You’ll Do
Help evaluate designs for manufacturability and perform testing, collaborating actively with the design and production teams.
Assist in designing and implementing tooling and test solutions that support hardware build and delivery.
Contribute to developing new processes and procedures for manufacturing operations and flight hardware builds.
Participate in time studies, layout refinement, and capacity modeling initiatives to drive process improvements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot production challenges and resolve product non-conformances.
Document technical procedures, experiments, and analyses for knowledge-sharing and process improvement.
What We're Looking For
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM field.
Expected to complete or have completed final degree within one year of the internship’s end.
Practical experience with CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, etc.).
Strong understanding of engineering first principles and interest in building physical hardware.
Effective communicator; able to work in cross-functional teams and contribute to technical discussions.
Detail-oriented, enthusiastic about hands-on work and continuous improvement in manufacturing.
GPA of 3.0 or above preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous internship, research, or project-based experience in manufacturing, robotics, or process engineering.
Familiarity with time studies, process documentation, and statistical analysis tools (MATLAB, Excel, Python).
