What is a day in the life of a Network Engineer?
- Design, implement, and support scalable network infrastructure across global sites.
- Manage and optimize SD-WAN environments and BGP routing topologies.
- Develop and maintain failover and redundancy strategies across multiple ISPs and routing paths.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot FortiGate firewalls, FortiSwitches, and FortiManager (experience preferred).
- Monitor and maintain network performance and uptime using network monitoring tools (experience with CheckMK is a plus).
- Build and refine alerting, dashboards, and performance metrics to proactively identify issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors for buildouts, migrations, and expansions.
- Maintain accurate and detailed network documentation, diagrams, and configuration standards.
- Participate in after-hours maintenance or emergency response as needed.
- Identify and lead opportunities to improve performance, automation, and monitoring capabilities.
What will I need to thrive in this role?
- 3–5 years of professional experience in network engineering or related technical field.
- CCNA or Fortinet NSE certification (required).
- Proven expertise with BGP routing and SD-WAN architecture.
- Strong understanding of failover and redundancy strategies (dual ISPs, HA pairs, routing failover).
- Proficiency in routing, switching, and VPN technologies.
- Familiarity with Fortinet products (FortiGate, FortiSwitch, FortiManager) strongly preferred.
- Experience with network monitoring systems (CheckMK experience is a plus).
- Experience with 802.1X, VLANs, NAC, and Wi-Fi (experience with Portnox and Aruba is preferred).
- Exposure to cloud networking (AWS, Azure).
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
