WHO is Sound Generations?

We are a comprehensive non-profit organization that serves older adults and people with disabilities in King County. Our mission is to partner with older adults to provide accessible and inclusive services so they can age their way.

We are currently seeking a Community Engagement & Advocacy Coordinator to join our team in Seattle, WA. 

What will YOU do?

The Community Engagement & Advocacy Coordinator plays a key role in elevating Sound Generations' voice across the region by implementing strategic outreach efforts, advancing advocacy priorities, and fostering strong relationships with diverse communities, policymakers, and partners. This role centralizes outreach for the organization-aligning digital communications, grassroots engagement, and volunteer efforts to amplify our impact and promote our programs. The position requires a skilled communicator who can represent Sound Generations in policy settings, develop culturally responsive outreach strategies, and ensure a two-way flow of information between programs and the communities we serve.

Pay Rate: $33.94 per hour (Compensation for this role is fixed at a flat rate of $33.94/hour).

Work Schedule: Monday Through Friday, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

Outreach & Relationship Building: 

  • Implement an annual outreach and engagement plan that reflects program needs, advocacy priorities, and fundraising goals.
  • Build and maintain active, collaborative partnerships with community leaders, organizations, and culturally diverse communities.
  • Facilitate feedback loops between program staff and community partners to ensure mutual learning and responsiveness.

Advocacy & Policy Engagement:

  • Along with the Community Engagement Officer, as needed, make a presentation on Sound Generations and its programs to be used at City Council and other policy-related meetings; and, when relevant, prepare and/or give public testimony in collaboration with the Community Engagement Officer.
  • Support leadership and program teams in advancing advocacy priorities.
  • Mobilize outreach volunteers and community members to engage in campaigns and advocacy efforts on behalf of the programs as well as the entire organization.

Digital Outreach & Content Development:

  • In collaboration with the Marketing Department, help create culturally responsive outreach materials, digital campaigns, and storytelling content that highlight the programs and services of Sound Generations.
  • In collaboration with program directors, create and grow digital outreach channels (e.g., newsletters, social media, online events) that promote Sound Generations programs.
  • Monitor and report on digital engagement metrics to refine outreach strategies.

Volunteer Coordination:

  • Recruit, train, and oversee outreach volunteers to expand the organization's presence in the community (e.g. volunteers to table at resource fairs or attend events to promote visibility of SG programs).
  • Provide tools, messaging, and ongoing support for volunteers representing Sound Generations and its programs.

Informed Evaluation & Reporting:

  • Track, analyze, and report outreach and advocacy activities using the Customer Relationship Management system.
  • Provide data insights to leadership and program teams to inform decision making.
  • Recommend process improvements to strengthen outreach effectiveness.

Cross-Organizational Collaboration:

  • Partner with Marketing & Philanthropy, the Program Leaders Team (PLT), and Executive Administration to align messaging and outreach efforts.
  • Support organizational efforts by cultivating relationships that may lead to funding opportunities.
  • Assist supervisor with departmental planning and strategic initiatives.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, advocacy, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse communities.
  • Experience in advocacy or policy engagement is preferred.
  • Digital communications and content creation experience is strongly desired.
  • Volunteer recruitment or coordination experience a plus.
