General Definition of Work
The Math Skills Plus Teacher (Math Interventionist) delivers high-quality, data-driven mathematics instruction to students who are below grade level or otherwise in need of math skill intervention. The teacher helps close achievement gaps, accelerates students toward grade-level mastery, and collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, and families to design and implement interventions.
Qualification Requirements
• North Carolina teaching licensure (current or previous)
• Minimum of three years’ experience as a classroom teacher, preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of research-based, current curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• General knowledge of daily routines of the classroom.
• General knowledge of student handbook rules.
• General knowledge of procedures to follow in the event of an emergency.
• General knowledge of the principles of organization and administration.
• Some knowledge of the curriculum for the grade.
• Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when student is participating in an inclusive activity.
• Ability to motivate students.
• Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
• Ability to perform general clerical duties.
• Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
• Ability to operate common office machines.
• Ability to maintain basic files and records.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
Essential Functions
• Provide small-group and/or one-on-one mathematics instruction (Tier II / Tier III intervention) based on student need.
• Use diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to identify student strengths, needs, and progress.
• Monitor and document student progress; maintain data-based records, and adjust interventions accordingly.
• Participate in the school’s MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) team to review student progress and make decisions about placement, intensity, and duration of supports.
• Develop and implement high-quality tutoring experiences for students that include assessing students’ individual needs, providing individual and small group instruction to students based on those needs, and supporting the use of digital tools during tutoring sessions.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to determine specific student needs.
• Communicate and collaborate with the staff about student progress.
• Communicate regularly with families about student progress, growth, and needs
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or instructional leadership team.
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs, etc.
• Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
• Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.
