Role Description

The Mining Systems & Technical Development Lead (MSTDL) will be responsible for providing support for our technical mining systems. This role will provide governance, maintenance, training, and troubleshooting. 

This position will be fully integrated with site-based teams serving as a key resource to support the maximum value generation from the systems we utilize. It will also aid in the coordination of our early technical development programs (Greenfield Talent Program and Compass). 

The MSTDL will be based out of the Elko Business office; With the majority of time (+70%)  will be spent on site with users. 

Responsibilities

  • System Governance
    • Develop and maintain  operating standards for each of the software packages and support technical professionals in efficient use and adherence to the standards. Key software packages include:
      • Deswik Planning Standard Files
      • Deswik MDM
      • Argus
      • Xeras
    • Work with IT and software vendors to manage upgrades, patches, and system enhancements
    • When issues arise lead their resolution with collaboration from site teams and the suppliers
    • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies in planning systems/software
    • Evaluate new tools and develop strategies for their implementation

 

  • Process & Data QA/QC and Improvement: 
    • Work on site with technical teams to understand bottlenecks, develop resolutions, and implement them
    • Ensure that processes being used are efficient and fit for purpose
    • Build and maintain a scorecard of key planning software across all sites measuring the maturity/value generation and steps to close gaps 
    • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of data within the planning systems

 

  • User Support & Training:
    • Develop “start to finish” planning roadmap and work to continually improve this by streamlining workflows
    • Identify tools used at each stage of the process and continually evaluate their effectiveness
    • Continue to refine our system for sharing technical training sessions across NGM (attendance, costs, etc.)
    • Coordinate or Lead training sessions for the software listed above on an as needed basis

       

  • Technical Development:
    • Facilitate the hiring, coordination, and improvements to the structure of the Greenfield Talent Program
    • Work with site teams to determine placement of GTP graduates
    • Work with Talent Management and Learning and Development teams to ensure the programs are fit for purpose and align with /compliment other programs within the business

Project Management:

  • Lead and manage planning system-related projects, including new system implementations, system upgrades, and integrations with other business systems
  • Work with project teams to define scope, timelines, and deliverables for planning system initiatives
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met

 

Key Outputs (KPI’s)

  • All sites utilizing the standard Deswik Files
  • All sites utilizing MDM for data management
  • Argus ownership centralized
  • Xeras training/support sessions 1/quarter during FCST rollup
  • Greenfield Talent Program expanded to include MRM, Mets, and Asset Managment
  • Compass Program grown and supported
  • Others as assigned

 

Structure & Reporting

  • Role will report to the Manager Technical Excellence
  • HOD is the General Manager of Technical Services
  • Key Collaborators are:
    • Divisional Technical services & MRM Superintendents
    • Senior Mining Engineers
    • Mine managers & Site Resources
    •  Technical Specialist team
    • Technical Subject Matter Experts (SME’s)
    • Business planning, finance, MRM, engineering and other departments
    • Talent Management Team
    • Leadership Development Team
