About the Department
Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position provides staff support, leadership, and league communications for the administration, planning, and implementation for a recreational youth basketball league.
Expected Hours of Work
A part-time seasonal position featuring work from December – mid-March. Weekday work hours are flexible. Required work hours for game supervision includes Saturdays from mid-January – mid-March.
Position Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide a safe, fun and appropriate experience for all league participants and volunteers.
2. Assists in the planning, organizing, and leadership of activities, rules, and curriculum for cooperative run youth basketball league.
3. Organize and coordinate program supplies inventory.
4. Assists with development of league practice, game, and official’s schedules.
5. Completes required reports, evaluations, and documentation for participants, league officials, volunteers, incidents, feedback, and property damage.
6. Provides directions and guidance for volunteers and league officials.
7. Ensure participants, volunteers, and league officials follow established policies and procedures.
8. Attend and assist with league trainings and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
2. Experience working with youth athletic leagues.
3. Possess knowledge, skills, and creativity required to lead youth basketball activities.
4. Demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and techniques.
5. Ability to work independently and with people of all ages and abilities.
6. Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
7. Available to work December – mid-March without requests for extended time off.
Desired Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Education, or related field.
2. Experience implementing and coordinating recreational athletic programs/leagues.
3. Experience coaching with youth between the ages of 7-17.
4. Possess a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's license and have a good driving record.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have employee supervisory responsibilities. However, staff will oversee programs, participants, and facility users to ensure safety, enforcement of rules/regulations, and provide direction for part-time/temporary staff and volunteers as needed.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. Employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Employee is subject to noise, during events and activities, but generally free from additional work hazards.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. The employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position, as well as operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer, and telephone, as well as equipment/tools consistently found in banquet services, restaurant operations, and maintenance. Staff will frequently read and interpret documents, including safety manuals and operating procedures. Staff will frequently traverse around the community center, golf course, and patio/decks. Will occasionally lift items weighing up to 30 pounds.
