Position Title: Intervention Aide

Reports to: Principal

Department: Special Services

Position Category: 10-month contract, non-exempt, part-time

 

Position Summary: The Intervention Aide will provide individual and small group attention to students in need of extra support. The Aide will also provide support for teachers by helping with classroom activities and monitoring students. They will assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including academic instruction, social/emotional learning, behavior management, and additional duties focused on student success. The Aide will work under general supervision of the Principal and immediate direction of the certified teacher of the student(s) needing services.

 

Essential Job Function:

  • Provide academic tutoring/interventions individually or in small groups, reinforcing instruction as directed by the classroom teacher(s).
  • Provide interventions for at-risk students demonstrating behavior concerns in and out of the classroom.
  • Assist the teacher(s) with instructional materials and equipment, administrative records, and learning environments.
  • Confer with the teacher(s) concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs
  • Assist with implementation of lesson plans as needed.
  • Support teachers in maintaining a productive and safe classroom environment, including helping students stay on task and responding calmly when additional support is needed.
  • Assist the teacher(s) with supervision of students during non-instructional times such as emergency drills, assemblies, lunch, restroom breaks, field trips, transitions in the hallways, recess/outside time, arrival, and dismissal.
  • Keep the teacher(s) informed of progress or problems of individual students.
  • Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing and copying instructional materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all students and staff.
  • Maintain emotional control in stressful situations.
  • Participate in weekly special population meetings.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Serve as a Classroom Substitute Teacher as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Education – High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred – Associate’s degree, two years of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment required by TEA
  • Preferred- Educational Aide or Teacher Certification
  • Required Skills and Capabilities: Ability to work with special needs children, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively
  • Must have or be willing to receive training in CPI, Autism, and Behavior Intervention
  • Physical Requirements – ability to carry up to 25 lbs. and lift up to 50 lbs.; valid driver license
