The Production Controller is responsible for overseeing daily and special production schedules, monitoring product flow, managing inventory and capacity, and ensuring operational efficiency across internal and external stakeholders.  
 
This role acts as a central coordinator between multiple stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective production delivery. In the broadest sense, the Production Controller is responsible for the identification and segregation of different tasks that make up the daily schedule, setting milestones and deadlines, and monitoring progress to the defined goals.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and coordinate daily production schedules throughout the day and make necessary adjustments when unexpected situations should arise (sick employee, down equipment, late shipments, etc.)  
  • Responsible for traceability of product movement internally and externally by tracking shipping and incoming inventory.  
  • Monitor and adjust schedules to optimize product flow and meet deadlines, as well as alert when daily workload cannot be completed and trigger mitigation solutions.  
  • Track and monitor the daily capacity for each department and employee. Identify any bottleneck in overall process and propose improvement ideas including more training for resources.  
  • Investigate capacity impact on new services or special projects being introduced and ensure proper cost recovery.  
  • Ensure load leveling procedures are maintained by avoiding spikes in daily workload.  
  • Manage a reserve of product inventory. Using this reserve to guarantee very minimal downtime.  
  • Track all incoming product shipments via transport websites and ensure they are properly scheduled according to service requests filled out by subscriber (client)  
  • Track and monitor when shipments are required for return product and/or donations.  
  • Identify any foreseeable risks and obstacles that may impact the daily schedule. Prepare contingency plans, provide risk analysis, and have measures in place to address any issues that may arise.  
  • Ambassador to GS1 to maintain specific Service Level Agreements (SLA).  

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A bachelor’s degree in planning/scheduling, business management or accounting required  
  • 3+ years' experience in a similar scheduling role for operations and/or supply chain management.  
  • Communication skills: must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with a range of stakeholders  
  • Analytical skills: the controller must be able to gather and analyze complex data to inform decision-making processes.  
  • Problem-solving skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-moving environment.  
  • Project management skills: the controller must be able to manage the daily and weekly schedule from start to finish.  
  • Experience with inventory management, part classification or category profiling.  
  • Strong organizational and scheduling skills with attention to detail. 
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, Power BI, scheduling planning tools.  
  • This role requires knowledge of both French and English, as it involves frequent communication with stakeholders and business partners across Canada, including in provinces where English is the predominant language.
