About the Role
As the Engineering Manager, you’ll oversee several cross-functional squads, partnering closely with Product, Design, and other leaders to ensure smooth execution, smart prioritisation, and a positive engineering culture.
You will not be writing production code daily — but you must be able to guide technical decisions, unblock architectural challenges, coach leads, and maintain the respect of senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People
- Lead, coach, and grow multiple engineering squads and Team Leads.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and development planning.
- Build a culture of accountability, trust, and engineering excellence.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and professional development across the team.
Technical Guidance
- Provide technical direction and ensure high-quality architecture across squads.
- Act as a sounding board and escalation point for complex technical problems.
- Partner with Tech Leads on setting coding standards, testing practices, and documentation expectations.
- Ensure squads are making simple, scalable, and maintainable decisions.
Delivery & Execution
- Ensure engineering teams deliver against goals with predictability.
- Implement and refine processes to improve flow, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance velocity.
- Support squads through planning, prioritisation, estimation, and retros.
- Monitor engineering health: quality, stability, performance, and operational reliability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product to align roadmaps, clarify requirements, and balance trade-offs.
- Communicate engineering progress, challenges, and risks to leadership.
- Ensure alignment across squads when working on shared code, systems, or architecture.
What You Bring
- Proven experience as an Engineering Manager leading multiple teams or squads.
- A strong technical background — ideally in Elixir, or in building distributed/cloud-native systems.
- Experience managing senior engineers and technical leads.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to create clarity and focus in fast-moving, high-change environments.
- Strong delivery instincts — you know how to get teams shipping.
- Empathy, emotional intelligence, and mature communication.
- Experience hiring, coaching, and developing engineering talent.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience working in scale-up or transformation environments.
- Exposure to Phoenix, LiveView, OTP, or event-driven architectures.
- DevOps familiarity (AWS, Docker, CI/CD).
- Logistics or supply chain domain experience.
