Nexus Children’s Hospital – Shenandoah is a  inpatient hospital providing advanced care for children and adolescents with complex behavioral, psychiatric, neurodevelopmental, and medical needs. Our behavioral health program supports adolescents experiencing acute behavioral dysregulation, co-occurring psychiatric conditions, and challenging neurobehavioral presentations.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist plays a key leadership role within our inpatient adolescent behavioral health program. This physician is responsible for psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapeutic oversight for adolescent patients presenting with behavioral and psychiatric disorders. The psychiatrist functions as a core member of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring safe, evidence-based, and developmentally appropriate care for high-acuity behavioral health patients.

This role is ideal for a psychiatrist passionate about adolescent behavioral health, crisis stabilization, and therapeutic recovery in a structured inpatient environment.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Care

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for adolescents with behavioral disorders, complex psychiatric diagnoses, and co-occurring medical or neurodevelopmental conditions.

  • Develop and manage individualized treatment plans focusing on stabilization, behavioral regulation, and therapeutic progression.

  • Provide medication management aligned with best practices for adolescent psychopharmacology.

  • Assess for suicide risk, self-harm, aggression, and other high-risk behaviors; implement appropriate interventions.

  • Maintain timely and thorough documentation in accordance with regulatory, accreditation, and hospital standards.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Lead daily treatment team meetings to review progress, safety concerns, and treatment adjustments.

  • Work collaboratively with nursing, behavioral health technicians, therapy services, case management, and family support teams.

  • Provide expert consultation and clinical direction to staff managing complex or escalating adolescent behaviors.

Family & Caregiver Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding diagnosis, treatment progress, medication plans, and discharge preparation.

  • Educate parents/guardians on behavioral management strategies and aftercare recommendations.

Safety & Quality

  • Promote a safe therapeutic milieu that supports emotional regulation and behavioral stability.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance program outcomes and patient experience.

  • Ensure adherence to psychiatric standards of practice, hospital policies, and regulatory guidelines.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).

  • Completed ACGME-accredited residency in Psychiatry and fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

  • Current Texas medical licensure (or ability to obtain prior to start).

  • Experience in inpatient child/adolescent behavioral health strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high-acuity adolescent populations.
