Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.
We are looking for a Software Development in Test Engineer II who is eager to ensure the reliability and accuracy of data pipelines in a modern data platform supporting critical business insights. This role will work closely with senior engineers to validate datasets, contribute to automation efforts, and support data quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in validating ETL logic, transformation rules, and data quality in Snowflake, Databricks, and other data platforms before code changes are released to production.
- Work with data engineers to understand pipeline design and identify areas where data issues may arise.
- Execute test plans and manual/automated tests to ensure data accuracy before production releases.
- Contribute to the development of automated test scripts to improve coverage and reduce manual checks.
- Translate business and technical requirements into test scenarios for key metrics and validation rules.
- Collaborate with senior data quality engineers to enhance and maintain the testing framework.
- Support stakeholders such as analysts and product managers by validating and troubleshooting critical datasets.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in data validation, ETL testing, or quality engineering for data pipelines
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree and/or equivalent work experience
- Proficient in SQL with the ability to query and validate large datasets for consistency and accuracy.
- Basic to intermediate Python scripting experience for writing validation logic and test automation.
- Exposure to modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Hive.
- Familiarity with tools like Airflow, Spark, or similar orchestration/data processing frameworks.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn from senior team members.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset for working in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with BDD frameworks (e.g., Behave)
- Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or other cloud-based data environments
- Interest in exploring tools like Deequ, Great Expectations, or building custom validation frameworks
