  • Working 24 hours, 3 days a week.
  • Salary commencing at $38.73 per hour, plus 12% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.

The Opportunity 

Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Transport Student Engineer to join our Traffic and Transport team within the Engineering and Capital Works Delivery department. In this role, you will assist in investigating traffic engineering, transport planning, parking, and road safety requests, providing safe and sustainable solutions for the community. You will also contribute to internal and external consultations, actively collaborate with team members, and help drive successful project outcomes while gaining hands-on experience in a local government environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate traffic, transport, road safety, and parking issues and provide recommendations.
  • Conduct site inspections and traffic, parking, and transport surveys.
  • Assist in community consultation and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain records of traffic and transport requests and ensure timely, quality customer service.
  • Use software systems including MS Office and Intramaps to support reporting and analysis.
  • Provide project updates to team members and support the unit’s objectives through active teamwork.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you should be undertaking an appropriate undergraduate course such as civil engineering, planning, or building. You should demonstrate strong time management skills, the ability to set priorities, plan, and organise work to meet deadlines, and a commitment to achieving desired outcomes efficiently. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for liaising with the community, stakeholders, and internal teams. You should have a basic understanding of traffic engineering and transport principles, a willingness to learn, and experience with computer software applications. A current Australian Driver’s Licence is desirable.
