Role: Procurement Specialist - Raw Materials and Exipients
Location: Must Reside in Houston, TX
Employment Type: Full-time

Summary / Objective
This role oversees the procurement of product packaging components (vials, closures, labels, cartons) and warehouse supplies (PPE, shipping materials, consumables) that support daily operations and finished-good distribution.  The ideal candidate will balance cost control, supplier reliability, and operational support in a lean, high-volume setting..

Key Responsibilities:

Purchasing: 

Execute purchase orders for APIs, excipients, and inactive ingredients based on approved forecasts and inventory targets. Ensure alignment between Airbase and Avantor IMS purchasing records. 

Vendor Management: 

Develop and maintain relationships with qualified suppliers to ensure reliable supply, competitive pricing, and compliance with documentation standards (COA, SDS, Specifications). 

 
Supplier Qualification: 

Collaborate with Quality Assurance to support supplier onboarding, document review, and ongoing qualification requirements to meet cGMP and USP standards. 

Cost & Market Analysis: 

Monitor material pricing, global market trends, and supplier performance to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate supply risks. 

Inventory & Planning Support: 

Work with the Lead Supply Planner to align purchase timing with production schedules, manage MOQ constraints, and maintain appropriate safety stock levels. 

Compliance & Documentation: 

Ensure all purchases meet regulatory, safety, and internal compliance standards. Maintain complete and accurate records for supplier documentation, purchase orders, and material traceability. 

Reporting & Analytics: 

Prepare purchasing analytics, cost variance reports, and supplier performance summaries for leadership review. 

Continuous Improvement: 

Recommend and implement process improvements in purchasing, planning, and supplier management to increase efficiency and reduce total cost of ownership. 


Qualifications 
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Chemistry, or a related field. 
- 3–5 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management, preferably within a pharmaceutical, chemical, or life sciences environment
- Familiarity with cGMP, FDA, and USP compliance requirements
- Working knowledge of COA, SDS, and specification documentation for raw materials. 
- Proficiency with procurement and inventory management systems such as Airbase, Avantor IMS, or other ERP/MRP platforms. 
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple suppliers and priorities. 
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with cross-functional collaboration experience. 
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment requiring high attention to detail. 


 

Preferred Qualifications 

- Experience sourcing and qualifying APIs or excipients for sterile or non-sterile compounding operations. 

- Familiarity with quality documentation workflows and supplier audits. 

- Experience with Microsoft Excel analytics, dashboards, and data visualization for procurement reporting. 

- Certification in CPSM, CPIM, or related professional designations (preferred). 

Schedule: 9am - 6pm
