Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting and finance team by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing processes. This role ensures compliance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) while contributing to timely and accurate financial reporting. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with various teams to ensure financial accuracy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate general ledgers for multiple entities, ensuring transactions are recorded in compliance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Prepare and post journal entries for each entity, including accruals, allocations, and intercompany transactions.
  • Perform account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of general ledger transactions.
  • Assist in the migration of accounting systems, ensuring consistent setup and reporting structures across entities.
  • Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Uphold confidentiality, accuracy, and integrity in all financial and intercompany activities.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency in financial reporting.
  • Support management with ad hoc reporting, analysis, and special projects as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Fundamental knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct a plus) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of corporate accounting processes, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, accruals, intercompany transactions, and fixed asset management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • 1-3+ years of experience in corporate or public accounting.

Education, Formal Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1-3+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity corporate environment.
  • Experience in real estate or insurance industry a plus.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.   

 

Physical Demands:

This role is mostly sedentary and requires the ability to sit for long periods each day. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate orally. The employee uses hands and fingers to type, handle, and reach. The ability to operate office machinery such as computer, phone, copier, printer, etc in the commission of daily duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
