About the role
As part of our on-going contract with the Department of Justice, Ventia have a rare opportunity for a qualified and experienced Deputy Court Security Manager to join the Busselton team in WA.
This role will see you as a critical member of the Management team, where you will provide vital support to the Court Security Manager and assist in the delivery of an effective and efficient court operation and support the development of your team.
In addition, you will ensure the correct deployment of staff across the region and be responsible for the day-to-day performance of the Custody Officers under your control, as well as the management of custody areas within court.
This role with require you to attend a 6-week training course covering Ventia's policies and procedures, beginning on the 27th Jan 2026.
Your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Supervise staff in the manned court area
- Prepare duty rosters, including allocating daily duties and staff
- Keep abreast of and promote best practise trends to ensure this is embedded with the highest standard of governance, quality & compliance, via regular engagement with staff
- Supervise the handling of Persons in Custody to ensure they are dealt with in a caring and humane manner
- Maintaining a direct relationship with the Control function that manages the operation
- Liaise with the Court Coordinator on all staffing matters
- Check all warrants and other relevant official paperwork in your delegated court
- Ensure that all courts within the cluster are effectively manned
- Positively contribute to a diverse, inclusive and fair work environment, free from discrimination, bullying and harassment
Skills and experience:
- Certificate III in Corrective Practice
- Control and Restraint qualified
- Senior First Aid & CPR or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience supervising and supporting staff, preferably within a custodial environment
- Commitment to continuous improvement and customer focused quality service delivery
- Thorough knowledge of the PIC court and custody business
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong leadership potential
- Great computer skills for the purposes of reporting and ensure the data capture management system (ePEMS) is kept up to date in all aspects
- Great communication skills in order to engage with stakeholders including courts and police amongst others
- The ability to problem solve and act on your own initiative
- The desire to form part of a wider team operating across the contract
- Applicants must be flexible (working hours) and have a positive outlook
- Hold a Manual Driving Licence (MR or above high desirable)

- A non-judgmental, empathetic approach to Persons in Custody
- High focus on safety and security awareness
- Ability to maintain a reasonable level of fitness to undertake the inherent requirements of the role
- Manual Driving Licence - Desirable (HR, MR licence or F Extension category highly desirable for operating vehicles carrying passengers)
- Willingness to travel (road and air)
Other mandatory conditions, to be eligible for this position:
- Be an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen
- Have the ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Federal Police Check, Criminal History Check and Working with Children Check
- Undergo a pre-employment medical including a drug and alcohol test
