POSITION SUMMARY: 

The EHR Optimization Specialist is responsible for improving the effectiveness, usability, and adoption of Open Cities Health Center’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system — eClinicalWorks (eCW). This position works closely with clinical, operational, and administrative teams to ensure optimal EHR performance, enhance provider workflows, and support quality improvement and compliance objectives in alignment with HRSA and FQHC requirements. The specialist serves as a liaison between end users, IT, and leadership, identifying opportunities for system enhancement, developing best practices, and supporting end-user training to maximize the EHR’s efficiency and effectiveness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

EHR Optimization & Workflow Improvement

  • Analyze, design, and implement EHR workflows that improve efficiency, documentation accuracy, and patient care delivery.
  • Evaluate and optimize clinical and operational workflows in eClinicalWorksensuring alignment with OCHC’s clinical protocols and compliance standards.
  • Lead optimization projects related to patient scheduling, encounter documentation, billing, population health, and reporting.
  • Identify and resolve EHR usability issues to improve provider satisfaction and productivity.

Training & Support

  • Develop and deliver training programs for new and existing staff on eCW functions, best practices, and updates.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching and small-group sessions for providers and staff to ensure proficient and consistent use of eCW tools.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex EHR-related user support needs.

 

Data Integrity & Reporting

  • Maintain data integrity and ensure accurate documentation for UDS, HRSA, and quality reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Quality and Revenue Cycle teams to create and refine dashboards and reports that monitor clinical and operational performance.
  • Support federal and state reporting requirements, including quality metrics, immunizations, and care gap closure.

Project Management & Collaboration

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of EHR upgrades, patches, and new module rollouts.
  • Work with IT and vendors to ensure system configurations align with OCHC’s operational and compliance goals.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to support value-based care initiatives and performance improvement programs.

EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in health information management, Healthcare Administration, Informatics, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW) required.
  • Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), community health center, or ambulatory care environment strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience in workflow analysis, EHR optimization, and provider support.
  • Certification in eClinicalWorks, Health Informatics, or EHR optimization preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Deep understanding of eClinicalWorks functionality, including templates, eBO reporting, PM modules, and system configuration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of UDS, PCMH, and value-based care reporting requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
