POSITION: Wellness Coordinator
Standing Rock Wellness Program
SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Wellness Coordinator of the Standing Rock Wellness Program is responsible for developing and implementing culturally rooted healing strategies that foster physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The Wellness Coordinator plays a vital role in promoting positive health outcomes for individuals and families across the 8 districts of Standing Rock.
SUPERVISION:
This position reports to the Director of Tribal Health Administration, who will provide overall guidance and conduct performance evaluations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Standing Rock Wellness Program under the P.L. 93-638 contract focused on holistic wellness initiatives.
- Submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the HEW Committee, Tribal Council, and other required entities.
- Manage budgets, reconcile accounts, and ensure fiscal accountability for all program-related expenditures.
- Collaborate with contract representatives to ensure compliance with federal funding requirements.
- Research and apply for additional grants to expand the scope and impact of the program.
- Identify emerging community health concerns and implement awareness campaigns focused on self-care and positive lifestyle practices.
- Promote wellness strategies that reflect Lakota/Dakota cultural perspectives and values.
- Facilitate workshops that nurture physical, emotional, and mental resilience.
- Develop youth and family-centered initiatives to inspire self-confidence, cultural identity, and empowerment.
- Engage and train community volunteers to assist individuals seeking emotional and mental support.
- Partner with wellness professionals to respond to individual challenges and ensure ongoing support for those in need.
- Host conferences and trainings related to health promotion and cultural healing.
- Prepare grant proposals and explore alternative funding opportunities.
- Conduct research on evidence-based wellness approaches that align with tribal traditions.
- Establish a Wellness Taskforce to guide and sustain positive health strategies through community collaboration.
- Organize events and campaigns to promote uplifting messages about mental health and available resources.
- Oversee fiscal aspects of grants and contracts, including accurate recordkeeping and budget tracking.
- Compile and analyze program data to assess impact and identify areas for growth.
- Support individuals through grief management strategies rooted in culture and compassion.
- Review criteria for wellness-related project eligibility and approve funding accordingly.
- Build networks across the reservation to maximize the benefits of wellness programming.
- Supervise program staff and conduct timely evaluations.
- Perform additional duties as delegated by the Tribal Health Administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s Degree in Human Services, Native American Studies, or a related field, along with two (2) years of experience in community service programs involving account management, case management, or direct work with community-based initiatives preferred. High School Diploma/GED with five (5) year of experience in community service programs involving account management, case management, or direct work with community-based initiatives.
- Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational habits and a reliable work ethic.
- Able to manage sensitive situations with composure and professionalism.
- Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record.
- Must pass background checks at the state and tribal level with no convictions related to child abuse or violent crimes.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrate compliance with tribal policies and codes, including workplace ethics and internet usage.
- Sound knowledge of 638 contract operations and financial compliance.
- Experience facilitating wellness education, youth development activities, and cultural programming.
- Ability to obtain relevant certifications such as ASIST, QPR, Gatekeeper, Native Hope, and other healing-centered training programs.
- Understand and apply Lakota/Dakota mental health perspectives in community outreach.
- Ability to work independently while expanding health education services.
- High level of cultural sensitivity and ethical integrity.
- Skilled in time management, facilitation, and data reporting software.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Capacity to collaborate across tribal, state, federal, and private organizations for wellness advancement.
