As a Sr. Equipment Engineer reporting directly to the VP of Operations, you will be joining a team primarily responsible for the maintenance, repair, procurement, and monitoring of roll-to-roll equipment used for our ultrathin solid-state micro-battery manufacturing processes.  It requires close collaboration with other engineering staff, manufacturing personnel, and equipment manufacturers.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Installation, set-up, maintenance, and repair of roll-to-roll vacuum processing and manufacturing equipment.
  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance routines and procedures to ensure equipment reliability, throughput, and uptime requirements are met.
  • Develop, implement, and use equipment monitoring procedures to identify, reduce, or prevent equipment downtime, and improve throughput and yield.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop, design, and execute continuous improvement efforts to improve equipment effectiveness, throughput, uptime, and safety.  This may include working with 3rd party equipment manufacturers.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Supply Chain on the procurement of new equipment.  This includes developing new equipment purchase specifications, evaluating and selecting equipment vendors, and executing equipment acceptance tests.
  • Develop procedures and practices to ensure the safety of both personnel and equipment.
  • Develop and oversee modifications and upgrades of process equipment tools.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain FMEA strategies, SOPs, and SPM procedures.
  • Become an expert on the toolsets and train others on use. 

 

 

Desired Qualifications and Key Personal Attributes

 

  • Minimum BS degree in engineering or other science with 5 years’ experience; or some level of Technical Education with a minimum of 10 years’ experience.
  • Experience with ultra-thin web-handling (roll-to-roll) equipment and processes.
  • Proven history of learning new manufacturing equipment and becoming a technical expert.
  • Ability to work to project timelines and budgets.
  • Experience with SPC implementation (limit calculation, continuous monitoring, and improvement).
  • Strong technical and communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams to solve interdisciplinary problems.
  • Strong sense of initiative and ownership combined with enthusiasm for tackling challenges and seeing them through to completion.
  • Physically able to perform hands-on technical tasks on process tools, including the ability to lift components within 95% ergonomic limits.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral & written).
  • Operates with high ethics and integrity and is non-political.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with diverse personalities, build effective relationships, and interact appropriately and effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Roll up your sleeves, do what it takes attitude, which is critical in a start-up environment.
  • AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design or schematic software
