Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The Outdoor Adventure and Recreation (OAR) Trip Facilitator leads outdoor adventure trips for the University. This is a part-time position, responsible for assisting in the coordination of OAR trip programming, including organizing, facilitating, enforcing policies, and managing risk.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assists with the management and oversight of student trip leaders
· Leads outdoor trips and other OAR programs as demand and opportunity indicate
· Becomes a University of Richmond approved driver and drive 12 passenger University van when facilitating trips
· Attends and participates in departmental employee training programs. Facilitates periodic in-service trainings for employees in assigned areas.
· Advocates for awareness and understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion as it relates to all people in Health & Well-being facilities, programs, and communications. Performs all duties under a commitment to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Advocates for the educational and cultural benefits of providing diversity and inclusion in Health & Well-being.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises student staff on OAR trips in the absence of the Manager - Adventure and Leadership.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
· Requires medium lifting-up to 50 lbs.
· Requires employee to work evenings and weekends. Friday and Saturday availability is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills & ability:
Required
· Current Wilderness First Aid Certification required within 30 days of employment
· Current CPR/AED certification required within 30 days of employment. Certification required before approved to work independently outside of the Weinstein Center for Recreation.
· Must maintain current driver’s license, become approved as a university driver (requires 3 year driving history), an OAR approved trailer driver, and feel comfortable driving a 12-passenger van. All required for independent trip leading.
· Ability to read, interpret and enforce policies and procedures
· Ability to resolve disruptive situations and maintain confidentiality
· Ability to balance a variety of tasks with competency and accuracy
· Able to work a flexible schedule including some weekends, evenings, and holidays/breaks
Preferred
· Wilderness First Responder Certification
· Outdoor recreation/education certifications: ACA, AMGA, NOLS, Outward Bound, WEA, LNT
· Strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of the recreation profession, and commitment to growth in recreation
· Knowledge and experience with outdoor leadership and soft facilitation skills
Education & experience:
· Bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Education or Recreation-related field preferred, but may be substituted with appropriate experience, knowledge, skills and abilities
· Demonstrated knowledge and experience in outdoor instruction and risk management.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at the University of Richmond
Salary Grade 2: $15.15 to $18.00 per hour.
Schedule: Flexible and varies. Weekends and evenings.
