Position Summary

The Radiation Oncology Nurse provides comprehensive, compassionate care to patients receiving radiation therapy. This role includes both direct and indirect nursing responsibilities within the radiation oncology clinic, supporting patients throughout their treatment journey.

The nurse assists physicians during patient evaluations and procedures, performs physical assessments, documents clinical findings, and ensures all aspects of patient care are carried out with accuracy, empathy, and professionalism. Collaboration with the broader care team, including physicians, therapists, and administrative staff is central to this position.

The ideal candidate communicates effectively, thrives in a team environment, and brings a strong sense of compassion and commitment to each patient encounter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct and indirect nursing care for radiation oncology patients.
  • Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and patient care coordination.
  • Perform nursing assessments and monitor patient progress throughout therapy.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans, side-effect management, and self-care strategies.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and safety standards in all clinical activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, and other members of the care team to ensure seamless patient support.
  • Contribute to a positive and respectful work environment that reflects the organization’s values.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Registered Nurse).
  • Strong foundation in general nursing principles, patient assessment, and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of radiation oncology or oncology nursing preferred (training available for the right candidate).

Experience:

  • Prior clinical experience in an outpatient or hospital setting required.
  • Radiation oncology experience preferred but not required.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Kansas.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
