The Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator serves as an EH&S team representative for the USF St. Petersburg (USFSP) and USF Sarasota-Manatee (USFSM) campuses. Under the direction of the USF Environmental Health & Safety Department, and in collaboration with regional campus leadership, this position will help foster a culture of safety on campus and assist USF stakeholders with compliance on various EH&S initiatives and any applicable laws, regulations, or industry best practices. While this position is primarily based on the USF St Petersburg campus, the EH&S Coordinator may perform periodic work at other USF campuses or facilities. The EH&S Coordinator is an essential role.
The EH&S Coordinator will:
• Provide support and/or be responsible for various EH&S programs and initiatives across disciplines, as assigned.
• Perform inspections, training, incident investigations, and various consultations in support of EH&S programs, policies, standards, SOPs and other projects or initiatives.
• Track and analyze data for key performance indicators (KPIs) or team metrics, such as via designated safety management systems (SMS).
• Use strong communication skills to develop and deliver training, draft correspondence, and write technical reports for a variety of audiences at different levels of the organization.
• Collect and analyze data from a variety of technical instruments such as anemometers, combustible gas detectors, moisture meters, etc. to ensure that campus facilities, work
procedures, and research protocols comply with applicable laws, regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
• Perform incident investigations including root cause analysis, corrective action tracking, documenting, tracking, and reporting.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the USF EH&S mission and strategic goals.
Responsibilities
• Support the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) team and its strategic mission by assisting with the development, implementation, oversight, and enforcement of safety and health policies, programs, and relevant regulations or industry best practices. This position may take primary responsibility for specific EH&S programs or services, such as the Ergonomic Evaluation or Incident Investigation programs, depending on experience and needs of the team. Specific duties may include program audits, developing or providing feedback on program documents like SOPs or checklists, managing and reporting on datasets within the designated safety management system (SMS), developing and providing training, hosting meetings with stakeholders, etc.
• Work collaboratively with USF stakeholders to identify, track, and resolve safety, health and environmental hazards across disciplines, including Occupational Safety, Laboratory Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Fire Safety, etc. Specific duties may include performing hazard assessment and proposing mitigations, reviewing contractor safety plans, performing field audits and inspections, reviewing event and project requests, participating in safety committees or other meetings as appropriate.
• Perform safety and health assessments and consultations; analyze results and provide recommendations to key stakeholders as appropriate. This may include collecting data via technical instruments (e.g., anemometers, combustible gas detectors, moisture meters, noise meters, etc.), performing visual assessment of work areas or conditions, and analyzing results and findings to evaluate the overall safety of work practices, environments, or equipment; additionally, writing technical reports and correspondence and reporting verbally on findings and recommendations to key stakeholders.
• Lead or assist in various incident investigations, including injuries, illnesses, and near misses, as well as environmental, fire-related and other incidents. Write or assist with writing associated reports including root cause analysis to identify underlying factors contributing to incidents. Work collaboratively with campus-level stakeholders to develop and track corrective actions via the SMS. Analyze and report on key performance indicators or trends.
• Perform additional duties and participate in special projects as assigned in support of the mission and objectives of the USF Environmental Health and Safety department.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree and 2-5 years of experience in EH&S. Progressively responsible experience involving development or application of EH&S protocols, or other related experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or a related field and two years of experience in EH&S or a Master's degree in Occupational Safety or a related field and one year of experience in EH&S. Progressively responsible experience involving development or application of EH&S protocols, or other related experience may be substituted for Bachelor's degree on a year by year basis. Preferred Certifications: ASP, CSP, CIH or international equivalent.

• Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
