Reports to: Assistant Principal, Principal
Job Summary: The Dean of Students will work closely with the principal, school personnel, and students to build and maintain a positive, safe school climate.
Terms of Employment: 10 months, with salary to be established on the North Carolina State Salary Schedule.

Performance responsibilities
• Assist administration with the resolution of discipline problems and maintain records of interactions, communications, and plans
• Work with administration and the discipline personnel (administration, ISS coordinator, SRO, etc) to develop and sustain a safe and orderly school culture regarding student behaviors/expectations.
• Collaborate with faculty to establish effective processes and procedures to ensure rules and regulations are clearly understood and adhered to by students and staff (student and staff codes of conduct).
• Performs as a resource to teachers and staff who express concerns about student attendance, student development, and discipline.
• Work with counselors, social workers, administration, and other agencies to advocate for student equity and the advocacy of resources to provide needs-based assistance for student development.
• Serves on the PBIS committee to develop a positive plan for students who need a reward for upholding the expectations and showing positive character
• Documents interactions and outcomes (plans) for record keeping and communication with administration and stakeholders.
• Consults with families when necessary regarding student behaviors and potential interventions to assist
• Assists students with district-related programs for substance abuse and truancy
• Makes recommendations for revision of policies and rules affecting student behavior
• Conducts student observations to assist with behavior management and develop proactive/reactive intervention plans for students
• Works with teachers to develop behavior contracts or behavior intervention plans to monitor behavioral concerns
• Builds positive, active working relationships with students and families to assist with behavior that interferes with the learning environment and makes referrals to other agencies/resources for assistance
• Assists in developing and administering practices dealing with campus control and security
• Is a liaison between the class and ISS (and ISS back to class) as an intervention for students to process their behaviors that led to consequential action and counsels students on potential future issues/concerns
• Responds to written and oral communication regarding student development and discipline
• Communicates with teachers regarding information related to students' behavioral actions and interventions, and works with teachers and administration to creatively brainstorm ways to resolve behaviors that interfere with the learning environment
• Assumes administrative responsibilities when all administration may be unavailable
• Performs other tasks and responsibilities within the overall scope of the position as assigned by the principal and other administration.
Qualifications
• High School Graduate
• 48 hours of relevant College Credit or an Associate Degree
• Must have/ or be able to obtain a CDL School Bus License.
