To assist students with disabilities in accessing the general education curriculum and achieving IEP goals by providing instructional, behavioral, and social support within inclusive classroom settings. The Inclusion Paraprofessional works under the supervision of certified special education staff to promote student independence, engagement, and success.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED (required)
48 college hours, associate degree, or passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment of Academic Skills (required)
CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification (preferred or required upon hire)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of student disabilities and accommodations
Ability to follow teacher guidance and implement support strategies
Effective communication and collaboration with general and special education staff
Patience, flexibility, and professionalism in supporting students with diverse learning needs
Ability to model appropriate behavior and support student regulation
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support:
Assist students during instruction by clarifying content, supporting assignments, and reinforcing accommodations
Support implementation of instructional modifications as specified in the IEP
Monitor and document student progress, participation, and areas of need
Behavioral Support:
Reinforce classroom expectations and assist with behavior management strategies
Provide positive behavioral support and redirection as needed
Assist in implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) when applicable
Collaboration:
Work closely with general education teachers, special education teachers, and related service providers
Participate in training and staff development to support inclusion practices
Attend ARD meetings when requested and maintain the confidentiality of student information
Supervision and Safety:
Supervise students in general education classes, hallways, lunch, arrival/dismissal, and transitions as needed
Ensure student safety and well-being in all settings
Report any concerns regarding student behavior, academic needs, or safety to the appropriate staff
Working Conditions:
Classroom and school campus environment
May require assisting students with physical, emotional, or behavioral needs
Some lifting or physical support may be necessary
Possible exposure to challenging behaviors or self-regulation issues
*Salary is commensurate with experience *Starting Salary: $22,186 *This position cannot be performed remotely
Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through 11/25/2025.
