The Opportunity
WNC is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Corporate Accounting Manager to oversee the daily operations of the corporate accounting team. This role is crucial in maintaining financial accuracy, enhancing processes, and ensuring compliance within a dynamic, mission-driven environment. The Corporate Accounting Manager will lead and mentor a small team, manage core accounting activities, and partner across departments to ensure timely reporting and effective financial operations that contribute to WNC’s broader mission of expanding affordable housing opportunities nationwide.
What You’ll Do
Accounting Operations
- Lead, mentor, and develop the corporate accounting team, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Oversee and manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Manage general accounting functions including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, payroll, intercompany transactions, and account reconciliations.
Audit & Compliance
- Support the corporate audit by preparing schedules and providing required documentation.
- Prepare and review tax workpapers and returns for non-consolidating corporate entities.
- Manage FINRA quarterly reporting, annual audit, and compliance filings.
- Ensure accounting practices comply with GAAP and internal policies.
Cash & Treasury Management
- Oversee cash accounting activities, including review of wire packages, line of credit draws, paydowns, and treasury management.
- Review and approve cash transactions, including disbursements, receipts, paper checks, and bank reconciliations.
- Supervise the outsourced accounts payable function, ensuring accuracy of invoice coding, timeliness of payments, and 1099 year-end reporting.
Systems & Reporting
- Manage and maintain corporate accounting data within Yardi, including entities, vendors, segments, and bank account maintenance.
- Develop and maintain system reports that provide actionable insights, improve efficiency, and support informed decision-making.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, revenue recognition worksheets, and commission calculations.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with other department managers to improve communication, efficiency, and reporting accuracy.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the accounting team.
What You Bring
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a multi-entity environment.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP principles and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (Yardi, Datarails).
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in real estate, affordable housing, or LIHTC-related accounting.
- Experience leading outsourced or remote accounting teams.
