DEFINITION OF POSITION:
This position of New Grad Tech is a temporary position meant for those who desire a seat in the New Grad Program. This position provides a bridge for students to begin familiarizing themselves with GSHCS and provide income opportunity as they wait to sit for their nurse licensure exam and enter the New Grad Program. Once the nurse licensure exam is completed and the student has been granted their RN license, they will transition to a new title of RN-New Grad. While this position’s pay is set at the new grad RN rate, the student may not perform nursing functions until they are granted OR RN licensure and have transitioned to the New Grad RN title.
While under the transitionary title of New Grad Tech the employee works under the direct supervision of the Department Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses providing indirect/direct patient care consistent within the unit’s standards of care. All patient care provided will be within the scope of any current and applicable licensure: ie: C.N.A. and in accordance with hospital policy and procedures. Note: not all New Grad staff will necessarily hold a clinical license. This position will assist with daily operational duties in a “helping hands” capacity. Responsible for carrying out the mission, vision and quality commitment of Good Shepherd Health Care System.

- Working Conditions:
Inside environment, protected from the weather but not necessarily temperature changes. Subject to frequent exposure to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous materials and equipment. Occasionally subject to combative patients. Variable noise levels. Also subject to rapid pace, multiple stimuli, unpredictable environment, and critical situations.

Must be able to 1) perceive the nature of sounds by the ear; 2) express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken work; 3) perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes; 4) extend arms and hands in any direction; 5) seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands; 6) pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers; 7) perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and 8) stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Rare lifting of greater than 100 pounds.
