Job Summary/Objective

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient, accurate, and compliant processing of prescription orders while providing operational leadership and support to the pharmacy technician team. This role combines hands-on order entry responsibilities with mentoring, process improvement, and cross-departmental collaboration. A lead pharmacy technician serves as a point of escalation for workflow issues, contributes to the implementation of new systems and processes, and supports the professional development of the pharmacy team to maintain high levels of performance and patient satisfaction.

**There will be two available positions open for this role**

Key Responsibilities

Process new incoming prescription orders according to provider instructions, utilizing the Guardian pharmacy operating system.

Verify insurance coverage, doctor demographics, and licensure information; ensure accurate entry of patient information, including shipping details.

Perform prescription processing with accuracy and efficiency in accordance with plan guidelines and departmental standards.

Monitor and review work queues for orders approaching or exceeding established turnaround times (TAT), proactively resolving delays

Assist with task prioritization, troubleshooting order issues, and acting as a point of escalation for workflow challenges.

Train and onboard new team members, ensuring readiness, adherence to processes, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Provide ongoing training, upskilling, and refreshers for current staff to maintain high performance and compliance

Participate in testing and rollout of new programs or system updates; provide feedback and assist in change management.

Communicate effectively and professionally with internal departments, patients, providers, and third-party vendors.

Contribute to the development and maintenance of job aids, work instructions, and process documentation to support team efficiency and compliance

Proactively identify and recommend process improvements to enhance team efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.

Foster a positive, collaborative work environment aligned with company values and patient-focused care.

Critical Skills

Commitment to patient-centered service and upholding regulatory compliance.

Working knowledge of medication names, products, refill processes, and pharmacy terminology.

Proficiency with pharmacy management systems (preferably Guardian Rx or equivalent).

Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities; proactive approach to resolving issues.

Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and maintain focus.

Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.

Qualifications

Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician

Ability to obtain a Pharmacy Technician License through State Board of Pharmacy in dispensing states. This includes meeting all educational, training, and certification requirements as mandated by the state board of pharmacy.

Advanced knowledge of pharmacy abbreviations and medical terminology.

Minimum five (5) years of pharmacy technician experience, with prior leadership, mentorship, or training experience preferred.

Proven professionalism, courtesy, and discretion in interactions with fellow employees, patients, healthcare providers, and business partners.

Ability to meet departmental productivity and accuracy benchmarks consistently.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position provides functional leadership and training support to pharmacy technician staff but does not include direct supervisory authority.
