Job Title: Safety Coordinator
Position Summary:
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Safety Manager in creating, implementing, and maintaining safety programs across the company. This role involves conducting safety audits, investigating incidents, providing employee training, managing technical safety data, and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations. The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in promoting a culture of safety and accountability throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Safety and Inspections:
- Conduct field visits, safety walks, and inspections to evaluate project risks and ensure crews follow proper safety procedures.
- Perform regular safety observation reports based on project length and complexity.
- Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) audits for all locations and equipment.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind, while ensuring personal safety and the safety of others.
Training and Education:
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate training programs for employees, including OSHA-10, OSHA-30, fall protection, scaffolding, excavation & confined space, electrical safety, and safe machinery operation.
- Conduct new hire orientation for office and field personnel.
- Host “train-the-trainer” sessions for internal subject matter experts.
- Conduct company-wide training needs assessments and identify knowledge or skill gaps.
- Research and implement innovative training techniques, such as gamification.
Incident and Injury Management:
- Investigate workplace accidents, near misses, and injuries to determine root causes.
- Assist in managing injuries from the initial incident through full employee recovery.
- Hold field personnel accountable for adhering to safety procedures and company safety culture.
Safety Administration, Technical Data, and Compliance:
- Maintain documentation of all safety procedures, incidents, and reports.
- Assist in creating and implementing safety plans, ensuring adherence daily.
- Manage all PPE, safety equipment, first aid kits, spill kits, and fire extinguishers.
- Maintain PPE inventory, stock, and distribution; research and coordinate with vendors for cost-effective solutions.
- Coordinate monthly manager safety talks and weekly tailgate meetings.
- Maintain and analyze safety and compliance data using software systems, spreadsheets, and company databases.
- Generate reports, dashboards, and trend analyses to inform management decisions.
- Ensure safety documentation and reporting is accurate, up-to-date, and audit-ready.
On-Call Responsibilities:
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, available every third weekend.
- Be available to answer safety-related phone calls or respond to incidents outside of normal business hours.
General Responsibilities:
- Stay up-to-date with safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Ensure all activities comply with company policies and applicable safety laws.
- Operate company vehicles responsibly; position comes with a company vehicle and gas card.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the company’s safety initiatives.
Work Environment:
- This role operates in an office environment and requires regular travel to project sites.
- Standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and photocopiers, is used.
- Frequent exposure to outdoor conditions, including various weather elements, is required.
Physical Demands:
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, crouch, bend, and lift.
- Regularly required to communicate verbally and hear clearly.
Travel:
- This role requires regular travel to all company branches, including Dallas, Austin, San Antonio West, San Antonio North, Corpus Christi, and Houston.
- Travel is typically within business hours for inspections, training, or safety-related activities.
Employment Type:
- Full-time, Monday to Friday, with rotating on-call duties every three weekends.
Qualifications we're looking for
-Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency (VLOOKUP's, pivot tables, formulas)
-Experience utilizing other Microsoft products (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
-Bilingual in Spanish is a huge plus
-At least two years of experience in a safety role (safety officer, safety technician, safety coordinator, health & safety specialist)
