About the Department
This position provides supervision to the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU); and is responsible for scheduling and training staff members. Reports to the Community Affairs Captain/Investigator Major.
Position Duties

- Performs various supervisory duties for the Crime Prevention/Volunteer unit and the Media Relation Section.
- Coordinates, develops, and implements various programs, events, seminars, workshops and classes relating to crime prevention and community safety.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
- Oversees the Snake Creek and City Hall security details to include the contract security guards.
- Maintains association with various local, state and national criminal justice related organizations through membership and election or appointment to various positions on related boards, etc.
- Prepares staff evaluations and counseling.
- Promotes community safety and police/community partnership.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Communications or a related field with three years' experience in law enforcement, crime prevention, community safety or corporate security or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- State of Florida Crime Prevention Practitioner certification or certification as an American Society for Industrial Security preferred. Certification required within 12 months of hire.
- Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Certification preferred. Certification required within 12 months of hire.
- Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's License.

- Must be able to use software packages to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, NCIC, FCIC, Internet and public databases, calculator, copier, fax and telephone.
- Musthavetheuseofsensoryskillsinordertoeffectivelycommunicateandinteractwith other employees and the public through the user of telephone and personal contacts.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and departmental rules and regulations.
- Ability to train and supervises ubordinate personnel.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees, agencies and the public.
- Considerable knowledge of relevant law enforcement procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of modern office practices ,procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to write clear and effective reports, memoranda and letters.
- Abilitytoexercisesoundjudgementinevaluatingsituationsandinmaking decisions.
- Must be able to display a command presence in bearing and demeanor while acting in official capacity.
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through personal contact, the use of the telephone and/or other City- issued technology devices. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to workinanofficesetting;tostandorsitforprolongedperiodsoftime;tooccasionallystoop,bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist under desks and around furniture; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight up to 20 lbs.; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and toverbally communicate to exchange information.
