RN Charge Nurse Position Overview
Job Title: RN Charge Nurse
Location: Trinity Place
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 3 PM–11 PM
Position Summary
Trinity Place is seeking a qualified and committed RN Charge Nurse to join our clinical team. The Charge Nurse is responsible for delivering direct nursing care to residents while overseeing daily activities carried out by nursing assistants and medication aides. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring exemplary standards of resident care are consistently upheld.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct nursing personnel within the assigned neighborhood.
- Provide coaching and training to nursing staff, ensuring compliance with policies and standards; facilitate orientation and mentorship of new employees.
- Complete all necessary documentation in the electronic medical record system, including assessments, discharges, physician orders, nurses’ notes, incident reports, medication errors, and adverse drug reactions.
- Prepare and administer PO, IM, Subcutaneous, and IV medications, adhering to the six rights of medication administration.
- Oversee medication aides in accordance with state regulations.
- Administer annual flu and pneumonia vaccinations, as well as tuberculin skin tests, as required.
- Ensure accuracy of narcotic counts during assigned shifts and report discrepancies to the nursing supervisor.
- Arrange diagnostic and therapeutic services as ordered by physicians and according to facility protocols.
- Consult with physicians regarding resident care and participate in rounds when necessary.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement resident care plans that address individual needs.
- Engage with residents and family members as needed; manage grievances in accordance with the LSC Guaranteed Fair Treatment process.
- Maintain adequate stocks of medications, supplies, and equipment.
- Deliver professional nursing services, including catheterization, IV care, tube feedings, dressing changes, ostomy care, specimen collection for lab testing, and respiratory support.
- Adhere to LSC procedures for notifying supervisors, physicians, and responsible parties regarding significant changes in residents’ conditions.
- Report suspected abuse or criminal activity involving residents without delay.
- Uphold infection control protocols and emergency procedures as specified.
- Participate in ongoing education and complete required in-service training.
- Exemplify LSC’s mission, vision, values, and customer service standards in all interactions.
Qualifications
- Nursing degree from an accredited institution or completion of an approved RN program.
- Current nursing license in North Carolina (Registered Nurse).
- CPR certification or eligibility for certification.
- One to two years of registered nursing experience preferred.
- Proficiency with computers or willingness to learn electronic documentation systems.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Physical exertion may involve lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 35 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Extended periods of standing and/or walking, often while transporting objects.
- Occasional bending, squatting, or repetitive reaching.
- Ability to assist in repositioning and transferring individuals of varied weights in accordance with safe lifting procedures.
- Ambulatory throughout the facility.
