NOTICE OF POSSIBLE WAIVER: Per KRS 160.380, to expedite the hiring for this position, the district may apply for a waiver to prevent disruption of necessary instructional or support services.   

 

Basic Function:

 

Perform routine custodial activities at an assigned site or facility (Central Office) to maintain buildings and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition.

 

Duties:

 

  • Performs routine custodial activities at assigned district site; sweeps, scrubs, mops, waxes and polishes floors and vacuums rugs, offices, workshops and other assigned work areas; 
  • Cleans restrooms, break room, offices and related facilities as assigned; sweeps, mops and cleans office floors as assigned; spot mops spills and removes debris; cleans tables, chairs and floors 
  • Cleans and disinfects drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, and urinals; cleans mirrors, tile and windows.
  • Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate authority; reports and recommends need for maintenance repairs to appropriate authority; maintains security of buildings; reports suspicious or unauthorized individuals on campus; reports infractions of rules to supervisor.
  • Washes windows and walls; assembles, moves and arranges furniture, supplies and equipment in preparing offices and multi-purpose rooms for special events or meetings.
  • Cleans venetian blinds, dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork and makes minor, non-technical repairs as needed.
  • Locks and unlocks doors and gates as appropriate; maintains security of assigned areas according to established guidelines; turns alarm system off in the morning and on in the evenings as directed.
  • Orders supplies according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Picks up and rakes paper, trash and debris around grounds and in buildings; sweeps and cleans walkways and entrances; disposes of trash according to established sanitation procedures; washes out trash cans and follows established sanitation procedures and standards.
  • Packs, unpacks, loads, receives and stores books, supplies, materials and other items.
  • Operates cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor stripper, cleaning, buffer and polisher, carpet shampooer, scrubbers, high-pressure sprayer, manual and power sweepers and power blower as assigned.
  • Shovels, plows and sands walks and steps as directed.
  • Responds to emergency cleanups such as spills; maintains records of observed maintenance, repair needs and safety issues.
  • Participates in major cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Initiates work orders 
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge of:

 

  • Basic methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial work and routine maintenance.
  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Proper lifting techniques.

 

 

Ability to:

 

  • Perform routine custodial activities at an assigned facility to maintain buildings, land adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition.
  • Use cleaning materials, equipment and methods according to pre-determined standards.
  • Learn and apply knowledge of the schedules, procedures and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work.
  • Learn appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

Maintain tools and equipment signed in clean working order and provide proper security.

            -           Perform minor non-technical repairs.

            -           Observe and report need for maintenance and repair.

            -           Perform heavy physical labor.

            -           Understand and follow oral and written directions.

            -           Meet schedules and time lines.

            -           Communicate effectively with others.

            -           Inspect and assure the security of facilities.

            -           Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

            -           Walk, bend, lift, push and stand for extended periods of time.

 

 

This position is 8 hours per day and 261 days per year.
Contracted days will be adjusted depending upon start date.

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and provide a copy to HR upon
recommendation to hire.

Step 0: $17.13
Step 10: $20.85

New employees to the district may bring in up to 10 years of comparable, full-time, verified
experience. (NOTE: It will be the responsibility of the applicant hired to submit the BCPS
verification of experience form to their prior employer to complete and return to HR.)
 
Although Classified positions are paid on an hourly rate, salary is set up on a year-long contract and divided by the number of remaining paychecks.
